We declined doing maps, or direction on the wedding website. I don’t know how many guests would remember to bring them with them in their cars. And so many people have GPS, or similar. Often when I’ve given people directions they insist their GPS or Mapquest tells them something else, so they go with it, regardless.

I gave a friend directions how to get from her city in NC, to our beach house at the Jersey shore. She refused to follow them. Her GPS, or whatever, got her to the DE-NJ ferry, late at night, when it was closed. After a few frantic phone calls to me, she had to stay overnight in DE and drive to the shore the next day. The 2nd time she followed my directions.

MmeSilverBullet:  if the squiggle on the right is a lake, I’d color that in or shade it. I can’t tell if the other squiggle is highway 00 or the river (guessing river). If highway 00 goes north-south, maybe write the name in the same direction (maybe do that for all streets) and maybe make the highway line bolder than normal streets. You could maybe even take the river off, but up to you.

MmeSilverBullet:  I think it’s cute, but I’m not sure what it is supposed to show me? Is the blue a river? Are the penguins the ceremony location? Or where is the destination? Maybe make the highway another color or put the highway number in a circle like it is on maps.

I find it a bit confusing… not sure where the wedding is!

I’m not. I did inlcude address on our website and on the invtation insert. I figured people could just look it up and take the way they’re more confortable with. All the maps I’ve ever gotten in an invtiation ended up in the trash because FI knew a better way to get there. Plus with GPS and phones these days I don’t even use paper instructions.

Also, your map is confusing. Where is the event? I’m assuming its the Penguins? A big star would have better – maybe for older guests.

If you’re map is really that zoomed in I’m not sure how helpful it will actually be unless people already know how to get to the streets that are shown. We didn’t bother with a map and as a guest I’m not sure I would bother bringing it along- we just use a GPS when we don’t know where we are going.
