Hi! I’m so excited to be here! The official proposal is still pending, but we have told our families of our plans to get married! It’s a really wild situation, but I was left by my ex-husband a little over 3 years ago and his brother was living with us at the time to recover after a major ankle surgery, and once he recovered my ex up and walked. He said it was too hard to be a part of our family and he just wanted to be left alone and live in peace, and the he dumped me after 18 years of marriage, left his brother with me, left his adult daughter (whom I raised), and our 7 children (the youngest at that time was 9 months old), me 3 months pregnant, and moved in with another woman (whom he dumped after getting her pregnant just a year later–before I even filed for divorce!). I was finally–more than 2 years after he left–granted a divorce on the grounds of abandonment, and he pays regularly, rarely calls, and only sees the kids once or twice a year.
So after losing our home, and then spending the last 3 years putting the pieces back together, taking care of the kids together, moving across country to be near family, and going through my mom’s death in February (and really so much more), we have counseled with three pastors and have decided the it would be a beautiful end to a tragic breakup for us to get married! We love each other deeply, shared a 20 year friendship first, my children adore him, and we are a great team. Yes, it’s strange, but after a man walks away from his whole family, nothing can be truly normal again.
So he dropped the news on his parents yesterday–and they are thrilled! my brother and sister are happy too–and the kids are also excited! It’s his first marriage, so I want it to be the “whole nine yards!” So in less than 6 weeks, we will have probably 150-200 people (we moved here 2 1/2 years ago and everyone here knows how we got here and what happened), we will ride the ski lift to the mountaintop where the pastor (his best friend), and the pastor’s wife (my best friend), with the children standing by our side, will witness our covenant before God and our community! A horse-drawn carriage will take us to the outdoor pavilion at the church, where we will eat and kids will play and roast marshmallows over the firepit and send luminaries up into the starlight and then we will honeymoon right down the road at the honeymoon cabins! We live in a mountain vacation spot, so we will be tourists in our own town for the first time!
We got him a nice gray suit today, and i am waiting for my dress to arrive (it’s pale pink). The pale pink sapphire is being set in a rose gold solitaire setting, and I am going to spend the night with my best friend in a rental that belongs to a friend, and we will plan the decorations, watch The Notebook, eat gruyere and strawberries and drink Rieslinc and marvel at how God really does give us the desires of our heart!!!
Congratulations to you all–I look forward to reading all about your plans and seeing your rings, dresses and weddings!!!
