This is something that has sparked a few discussions with T and I.  He KNOWS I am a great party planner and that I have familial resources I can utilize who are even better at it than I am.  I believe I need five months because 1)I have a home which is a lease purchase and I need to get things in order before I move..have a 3 mos clause to break the contract and I had it written into the contract.  2)we'll be merging 2 households which takes a bit of work, and 3)I want to have a decent window to plan things including finalizing which dress I want.

Our engagimoon got royally screwed up a week and a half ago and we're gonna attempt it again except this time he will surprise me (still haven't seen the ring yet though).  My b'day is at the end of the month so ????

Anyhow, he wants us to get married this year but if I don't have the time frame window I prefer, it simply will have to wait until spring 2010.

I may be the longest engaged encore bride  and hostess here ever if this keeps up!

We had a 9 month engagement. Shorter than most encore, probably, but not super long.  Ours was somewhat determined by family schedules and weather (didn't want to do mid-Summer, and after that we needed to wait until late fall).  I thought it was plenty of time for planning, although (1) we had a very small wedding; (2) it was DW (although not at a resort where everything is all done, so it required more time than a local); (3) I had a wedding coordinator (mostly just narrowed choices early on); and (4) I did a LOT of planning during work hours (shhh, don't tell).

We got engaged in January 2009 (when we went away for our one year anniversary) and are getting married in October of 2009-so a 9 month engagement. We did some preplanning (so to speak) to get our date on the calendar at church, reserve our photographer & florist. I'm sure glad we did it then bc those dates are booked up now! :)

We got engaged last month and our wedding won't be til September 2010.  It *seems* so far away, but with our busy lives I know it'll go by quickly.  We don't have anything officially booked yet - our ceremony site won't let us book until this September and even though we've picked our reception location we haven't booked that either.

I just got engaged in January 2009, but we are not planning to get married until September of 2011. Count it! That is 2 years!!! We are both still finishing college, and the FI is going into police academy soon.... Scheduling is super hard, but we know the time will go by fast, and we pretty much "act" married now anyways. Still, I soooooo can't wait for the day I get to walk down an aisle to him. C'mon 2 years!!! :)

Well I will probably have either the shortest or the longest engagement of any encore here!  It will be either six/five months or nine or more months.

I just want it right...yes right.  And enjoy it all.  Every damn second of it.  And that's been my request to T.  He understands it, but does know that I can pull off a party at a days' notice..heck years and years ago (about 10) I had a wedding reception at my old home (was on a golfcourse) for two friends of mine on a very tight budget.  It was gorgeous.  They still loved it to this day.  Pulled it off with the help of sisterBelle  (yes, we're GRITS...girls raised in the south) and it was absolutely southern elegance!

So I just want some breather room.  Room to adequately take care of the home situation since we're merging two households, and then room enough to plan and UTTERLY enjoy being a bride and not confusing the two situations.

What alot of you don't know about me is that I hate moving.  I truly do.  Why you might ask?  Well when my son and I moved into this cute little house 2 years ago this summer, the moving van CARRYING MY FURNITURE was smashed into by a drunk driver.  Six months was spent in litigation and on the day I was supposed to be oh so happy moving into this cute house, I instead spent it crying, sitting on the curb in front of the house, just sobbing as the police and fire people (after they hauled the moving van to the house) went thru what was not damaged to what was utterly destroyed.  So there..you now know why I hate moving.

So I will NOT confuse the two.  Wedding planning and moving.  In fact, my doctor suggested when we do move again, that I take (that day only) a mild relaxant so I won't stress about it...it was THAT stressful before.

@ Belle:  SO SORRY YOUR ENGAGIMOON GOT MESSED UP!!!  I Know you were looking forward to that...Encores how long are you going to be engaged and wedding planning? : wedding Icon Sad

We finalized a date and a venue this past weekend (YAY!!!) but I'm still waiting on the ring.  It's being made and after he gets it from the jeweler, I'm out of the loop.

Our wedding is 10/10/10 so we'll be engaged (and planning) about 18 months.  I'm the encore and he is not, so it'll be the big giant fab affair he's always wanted.  I guess we're waiting that long mostly for financial reasons - since we're paying for it ourselves.  That gives us plenty of time for all the DIY I can get my hands on as well as spacing out the spending.

Luckily, he'll be moving out of his house and renting a room from a relative, for next to nothing,  in the next few months - so that's more we can save and it's putting us 40 minutes closer to each other.  The "merging" of households (heh - purging of his) will happen then.

Sounds lovely  Querida!  a perfect 10 wedding..heck that COULD be your theme!  Perfect 10!

Yep.  the merging of households.  The only furniture issue that needs to be "tweaked" are the dark cinnamon colored leather couches T has in his keeping room.  To me, they're a deepest orange and that does not go with any color scheme I will ever design..sorry.

Oh Querida it got MORE than messed up..so bad that T had to consult a lawyer, and the booking agency and I wound up with a horrid rash on top of things from the hotels' complimentary robes..yep.  That really happened.  I recanted the ugly tale on my blog, and the sitch was also reported on a travel site too.  Oh well..we are most likely going to be refunded 100 percent of the monies and the travel site (which is being awesome) is going to give us a trip on the house!

SO SO SO sorry you had to go thru that!  At least you get a do-over!

Funny you mentioned the "Perfect 10"  I've been toying with a few ideas on how to incorporate that into some of the little touches.

Well I've got 18 months to figure it out!!!

I think it will probably fall into the five to six month thing..unless when I get the ring is in the summer..then it will be a waiting period as I am not getting married in winter due to icy travel and the fact my older relatives absolutely would not get behind a wheel to muchless drive to the airport to even fly out!

Bellenga, I've easily got you beat!  We got engaged on July 24th and won't be married until June or July of 2010 - about 2 years.

This summer seemed too close to do it right (rwad: $$$) so next summer it is.  And since we own and live in our house together, we already did the family/household blending thing, this isn't THAT big of a deal.

Mr. Sea Otter proposed to me on 2/28/09, and we are getting married 8/1/09.  a day over 5 months for us!  We, too, are merging two households, buying a house, and getting married all in the next 4.5 months!  I can't believe it!  Good thing I get off work on 6/12 and don't go back til 8/22!

If you can get a do-over, then just pretend the first one didnt' happen!  :)

My FI proposed in August last year (2008), and we are getting married in September of 2010 so that I can finish school first.

That would make it a 26 month engagement, and I'm loving having all this time!  Loving it!  :)

Wow we might have the shortest engagement ever. We got engaged March 1st and are planning a June 13th wedding. The venue had a cancellation and I jumped on it. We have been long distance for over 4 years though so I am READY!! Encores how long are you going to be engaged and wedding planning? : wedding Icon Biggrin
