Congrats!! I'd take some time before planning to just enjoy being engaged. Planning can (and will!) be stressfull, but your engagement is a special time in both of your lives - Your wedding will get planned and be beautiful no doubt!

Congratulations! Charleston is one of my most favorite places, so I think you picked an excellent wedding location :)
My advice is to do as much research as possible online, and then do a scouting trip to Charleston sometime in the next couple of months. Email venues, caterors, photographers, etc. for price quotes. Once you have an idea of what things cost in the area you can make your budget. Then, make appointments to look at venues you are interested in, meet with caterers, florists, and wedding planners. Even if you think you don't need a wedding planner, I would still meet with a couple because you will either 1 - end up changing your mind and realize you need/want one, or 2 - it will just confirm to you that you don't need one.
if you are struggling doing research on your own you might want to contact a wedding planner sooner rather than later, as they can show you around and pass along recommendations. You might get a lot of great ideas just from looking at their portfolio.

Matt and I were recently engaged February 13 and I am so completely excited to begin this journey with my best friend. We are planning a wedding on the beach in Charleston and I have begun looking for an oceanfront home. I feel extremely overwhelmed at this point because I do not live in charleston and I have so much to plan for. We are hoping to shoot for April 14 as our wedding date, but that is not set in stone yet. We are still working on a budget and need to figure out catering, flowers, etc. I know there are various companies that you can work with, or even hire a wedding planner but I would like to just set this up on my own. I think I am quite an organized person, and will be capable of finding out all venues on my own. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
