Hi Everyone! I am getting married in June of 2014. While we are super excited we were curious about protocols for photographers. We currently live in Idaho, while I finish up school. But as soon as I graduate (before our wedding) we are moving back to my home town. The question arises do we try to find and schedule a photography in my hometown or do we book two different photographers for up here and down there? That could be more expensive, but since we are moving 6 months before the wedding that would probably be cutting it close to book only one…. Needless to say this is one of manny problems to arise during the wedding planning but its the first to catch my eye 🙂 what do you fellow bees think????

Why do you need a photographer now?

@peachacid: we were looking to get engagement pictures for our save the dates 🙂 and finding a booking and proofing pictures all in busy daily lives is going to take planning.

@BlushingJuneBee: Oh. Just don’t do engagement photos. We used a picture of our venue for our save the dates.

We live 4 hours from where we got married, and went there every few months to meet with vendors and make sure everything is in place. Would it be possible for you to go to your hometown for a weekend to meet with different vendors so you can start booking people?
No rush to book a photographer right now either. You still have plenty of time.

I would say stick to one photographer and use something else for your save the dates. Know anyone with a fancy camera, or even just a regular one who could get a nice picture of you guys? Or look for alternative save the dates and get some engagement photos just to have when you’re back in your home town.

If you are just wanting engagement pictures just hire a photographer where you are for the engagement pictures. Usually you pay for them seperate anyways unless your wedding photographer throws in an engagement session. An engagement session will run anywhere from 100 to a couple of hundred. Then hire a photographer where the wedding will take place to just cover wedding and possibly bridal portraits.

Book a photographer in the city you’re getting married. Schedule an engagement session when you’re in town for a holiday or something. Easy peasy.
