I haven't gotten him one, although it doesn't sound like a bad idea. He made a big deal out of the fact that men don't get engagement rings, so I almost bought him a right hand ring for our engagement.
I jokingly told my BF that I would get him an engagement boat when he got me an engagement ring. Of course I didn't have money for a boat, so I got him a Christmas ornament of a boat a few weeks after we got engaged, and had it personalized to say, "T's Engagement Boat". He didn't think it was as funny as I did...and a few months later I gave him some $$ towards a little, cheap used boat he found.
A really cute idea, for sure! We talked a little bit about this, but then Mr. Bru (jokingly) said he didn't need an engagement gift as long as he gets a Rolex "wedding watch." Haha, maybe for the 10-year anniversary... :)
Hmm...I always thought I would buy him something nice, but if it happens soon then probably not. He just bought a house and I splurged and got him a Wii as a housewarming gift. I'm kind of tapped out in the gift department for a little bit.
I bought Mr. Paris a beautiful watch from my company for our engagement. He loves it, but now he won't get a big price tag gift for the wedding, something small and sentimental.
I would have loved to buy him a watch for an engagement gift, but I hadn't started my job yet. I will get him a really nice one for Christmas tho
Not really traditional or elegant...but my FI is getting a Playstation 3. Hey, it's what he really wanted and I know he'll use it. Plus, they just lowered the price!
I got my fiance a Wii for our engagement. I figured it was the least I could do after he spent thousands on me!
I did! I bought him an Xbox 360 and a year of Xbox Live. He was really, really excited. He always says that his "engagement ring" is way bigger than mine. :p
@ fiftyfoot- LOL that's hilarious!
I didn't get Mr. F anything because I'm going all out for his pre-wedding gifts!
We got engaged on our 1 yr dating anniversary. I had gotten him a Wii and a gaming shopping spree anyway.
That's funny- I just got my fiance a PSP! He was so surprised, and I know he loves it so much more than he would have liked a watch. I'll get him a nice watch in a few years...

Ok, so my BF already has a Wii and PS3!! Being new to this whole thing, i didnt know we got the man a wedding gift!!!! What is it usually? Is that when i should get the watch?
I took my fiance to Jamaica for a week to celebrate. He did a really good job with my proposal and ring, and I just wanted to do something really special for him before the wedding planning fiascos!!!
@Miss Sydney- I don't think there's a tradition for getting the man a gift, so there aren't really any rules on it. (At least not to my knowledge!) You could either get him a nice keepsake item like a nice watch or get him something fun or that he really wanted. :)
It's also just really fun to do because for the most part, none of them expect anything in return!
My FI would much prefer video games to a watch. I can't imagine ever getting him something like a watch. He'd probably think I was crazy.
I wish I could afford to take him on a trip. He so deserves it.
@fiftyfoot - I got my fiance an XBox (and his fave game) too!
Video games are the way to go - gives him something to do while I obsessively read wedding blogs.
I always wanted to get him something and I really would have liked to get him a LCD TV but seen as I am still a student this is going to happen! I will get it for him one day!!!!!!
I will get him something...not sure what yet. I am thinking a few small items to make it personal and not just one huge thing.
I did!
I bought my fiance a new 47" tv :)
He loves it, he had wanted to replace his tv, but ended up spending his entire christmas bonus on my rings (engagement ring, we got engaged on Dec. 20th and my wedding ring). We waited till boxing day since im a university student with limited funds, but i suprised him with a new tv, and he couldnt have been happier :)
I told My Bf that if he gets me a ring I will get him the watch he has been drooling over for months now. Its a curtis & Co. big time world which is about $1,600.
I bought my boyfriend a 47" tv for his "engagement ring" too! I'm still waiting on mine but it either has been ordered or will be in the next couple days. I almost made him wait to watch his tv until I get my ring, but then thought I wouldn't have wanted to wait if I had gotten mine first! I also bought him a temporary ring for when we're engaged because he seemed disappointed that guys don't get to wear a ring until they are married. I'm excited to see how he reacts to it. :)
I got him a black plastic skull ring from one of those 25-cent red candy-and-cheap-toy dispenser thingys they have in grocery stores. It turns out those machines aren't as common as I thought, so it took 7 differnet stores to find one :) The machine I finally found also had plastic necklaces, which is what it spit out on my first 2 tries, before I ran out of quarters. Luckily, the nice folks at the Big Lots gave me change for a dollar, so I got a ring on the 3rd try. (And yes I did point out it's a 75-cent ring even if it only looks like a 25-cent one
) Then I strategically hid in in my purse or in pockets of whatever I was wearing for the next two months until he proposed. Just in case he lost the ring, I also got him an Ipod touch (for a "ringing" in his ears). But I kind of like the plastic ring best!
Ok, so I had decided to get him the Tag Heuer (should probably work out how to spell it before i purchase!) watch as an engagement present.
However, he came home the other night talking about how a girl at work had just gotten engaged and she bought her FI a Tag and a set of golf clubs!!!
I had to show him the catalouge with the notes all through it so he would know that i didnt get the idea from this "girl at work" who i think he was using as a ploy to give me a hint???

Im just wondering if any ladies have thought about getting their BF or FI a gift to celebrate getting engaged? An older male work friend recently suggested it as his wife bought him a watch which he loves!
