Are any bees having an engagement party? If so, was it formal or informal?
My FI and I are having an engagement party. I see a lot more of engagement parties in his culture but was wondering if other cultures do it too.

I know alot of people who have engagment parties or even engagement dinners. I see more engagement dinners where I am from/where I live now. Small, family & close friends.
But I know in other states they have huge engagement parties! & Some even have smaller family bbq’s, ect.
I did not have one but again I didn’t have a shower either. But I think an engagement party would be lovely & you should go for it!

My fiance and I threw an “engagement party” at our house in July. It was definitely not formal cause thats not us. We had burgers on the grill and potluck/family style buffet with lawn games. We really just wanted an opportunity for our families to meet before the wedding. Our families live out of town/state and there has never been an opportunity for them to meet. We kept the invite to just family.

My family threw us an engagement party in March at my mom’s house. Not very formal but I dressed up. 🙂 It was fun.
BTW suggest to your family to buy buffet plates from Crate & Barrel or someplace. They come in boxes of 15 and since the engagement party we have used them 3 times. More uses to come!!! I only wish I had thought of that before I rented dishes for 5 parties I threw for my sister!!

We had an engagement party back in January and I would highly suggest everyone have one! It was an awesome way to kick off my year of being a fiance and to get eveyone involved and excited.
We had it in my sister-in-law’s party room of her condo. I got some food platters from Wegmans’s and Costco and my Aunt cooked. We all got dolled up and head to a lounge after. My only regret was that I didn’t delegate enough and I ended up being a basket case until all the guest made me sit down and eat.

My parents are throwing us one. TBH, I’m not sure what it’s going to be like. Since Mom said she wanted to do it, I’d been pushing for something low-key. I just decided to back off the other day and let her do what she wants. 🙂

FI’s family threw us an engagement BBQ. It was more of just a get together for our families to meet, eat, and drink all while being merry. It was a lot of fun.

My parents threw one for us, it was a very casual BBQ and was a great time.

- Wedding: May 2012 - Salvage One, Chicago
My parents threw us one at their house in July…we had about 60 people (which was fine, we have a large backyard) and they set up a 40’x20′ tent. We had it catered and had people working the bar and serving/cleaning up, but it was maybe a step above casual. It was fun to get the families together and a lot of my parents’ friends who hadn’t met Mr. Bing. We had a good time!
