My FI’s parents hosted and paid for our engagement party.  We invited our wedding party and a couple close friends and family.  It was a cookout in their backyard.

His parents love hosting parties and my fiance suggested (without pressure) that maybe we have an engagement party at their house if they thought that would be fun.  Maybe you could throw the idea out to your close family or friends to see if anybody would be comfortable with doing it, chances are somebody will be honored to host!  I think it’s also prefectly acceptable to host your own, maybe with a couple friends helping out or something, especially since it’s a housewarming party too.  Maybe you could delegate some tasks to friends/family in terms of food and host the rest?

Our parents jointly hosted ours. It was pretty informal, so I just sent out e-vites to our close friends and family.
