Maps would be cute! You could do some shots of you guys holding them and point at places on them, or stepping on the maps! Or you hitting him on the head with them!
I've seen balloons used in engagement photos and those are always fun, too. :-)
A couple ideas come to mind. Maybe lay out several maps on the grass, or some place you can lay down next to them, with your heads going opposite ways, laying on the maps. Get it? Hard to explain. Both you and fiance's feet will be pointing 180 degree away from each other. Heads come together on the slew of maps laying in a scattered circle.
Also, a cute shot would be you both sitting there side by side, reading the maps as you hold them up in front of your faces like newspapers. The photog would shoot from in front of you, with just all 4 eyes peering out from the maps. If he uses a big aperture, it will create a shallow depth of field(DOF) and blurr out either you or the maps, whichever he doesn't focus on. This shot would mostly crop out all but the maps and your heads/eyes.
Just a couple of ideas! Get creative, or even silly, if it's your personality. Do diplomats get silly? lol

My very first post here!! I'm so excited!! My fiance and I are getting our engagement photos done next week. We're both in the foreign service/diplomats and I'd really like to work that into the session somehow...unfortunately I have no idea how. I was thinking I could maybe get a bunch of maps (since we spend 2/3 of our lives overseas), but I'm at a loss of wh at we'd actually do with them or what we could do. Can any creative types offer me any ideas?! Thank you!!
