Mr. Bee and I just went recently. It is busy, but not overly so. I think it'd make a lovely backdrop! You could also pop into the meatpacking district with its lovely cobblestone streets!
Good to know Mrs. Bee! That's exactly what I was thinking too - greenery AND cobblestones!
I've been dying to do a trash the dress in Coney Island, but an engagement shoot would be fun too :) You have the amusement park, the boardwalk, and the beach all right there! It's a little on the gritty side though, so it may not be what you want. Battery Park is nice too, imo. The Cloisters might be fun too, but I haven't been there yet and I also don't know if they have photography restrictions.
I work by the 18th street entrance for the Highline, and it always looks packed, but I bet you'd get some awesome photos!
oooh, I was just thinking about this with my FI. We were thinking of the Brooklyn Bridge or Central Park.
I was also thinking about the Highline/Meatpacking district! Let us know how it goes!
So I asked my High Line/Meatpacking question rather last minute - we took our engagment photos Monday night! I'd never been to the High Line, nor had my photographer, so neither of us were sure quite what to expect. I'm sure the experience will vary based on where you are on the High Line - we entered at 14th street, and walked uptown to 20th. In retrospect, we should have started at 20th and walked downtown, because afterwards we were down on the street and had to walk back downtown to reach the cobblestone area again (NYC girls, I know you're following me here). I would say that those six blocks in the Park were 'ok'. There were some interesting benches, lights hitting the stairs....but I wouldn't necessarily go there if you were looking for 'green' pictures since you obviously can't step on their plantings, and it's rather difficult to appear 'within' the greenery without breaking the rules. We definitely had some problems with backgrounds....there are apparently quite a few parking lots over there!
All in all, I'm sure the photos will be great - and if there are any problems with the photos, I'm sure the issues will be related to the subjects rather than the backgrounds. We loved our photographer's direction of 'act natural, and just kiss!'. Us: In PUBLIC? :) Perhaps we should have had a drink first!
I did Long Island city by Five-Points building. TOTALLY CITY CHIC AND COOL! It's a huge warehouse building with tons of commissioned graphiti. We just walked to different spots and tooks shots. Everyone says they look straight out of a fashion shoot or magazine. We even happened upon a vintage checker taxi cab. Great fun. I posted some of them on my wedding website. I'm gonna use an image to make thank-you postcards for my shower guests. Love'em!
@Hobochic Thanks for the update on your Highline photoshoot! I didn't think about how you couldn't step into the greenery. Glad to hear the shoot went well though! I hope you post some pics when you get them! ![]()
@chocobritt Did you have any issues shooting in the Guggenheim and the Met? Did you have to get a permit or special permission? Those pics must be soooo cool.
@KolaBee Thanks for sharing the info on the Five Points building - I wasn't familiar with it. Your pictures look awesome! And I love your wedding website, btw!
we did shoot inside the guggenheim but just in the lobby and the security guard let us inside too, though we only stayed on the first level so our photographer can get the entire level shot.
we didnt' go inside the Met, stayed outside, the inside was just way too crowded and crazy then...though their policy is no pictures, i've seen bees here that have shot inside, and the lobby is free for use
@ wheresmydessert: just noticed you responded to my message on the board. Thanks!
i did the highline and it was fine. If your photographer is good. he will get good shots! when i went there were alot of people but it ended up awesome! you can check out my esession here. the highline images are towards the end. the slideshow begins in central park where the belvedrere castle area is :D

Hi Ladies!
I was curious as where everyone was having their engagement photos done? I was considering the High Line Park...but I'm guessing that even on a weekday evening it may be a bit busy! Anyone ever been?
TIA!
