Hi All – I have a question regarding Engagment photos. What are they for? What is everyone using them for? I got engaged 4/4/09 and keep hearing and reading info on engagement photos and I’m just wondering what everyone is doing with them. Are they just for a keepsake? Are you using them for save the dates? I’m so lost on this one! Thanks for the help!!

I think of them as a chance to get some pictures alone with your fiance. At the wedding, there are going to be a lot of other people around so you don’t get that alone time. We used them for our save the dates.

The couple can use the photos for the "save the date" cards or for a custom guest book.
For the photographer is a chance to get to know the couple before the wedding, which in my opinion is very important.

Thank you both for the information. I think it’s a great idea for the save the dates, especially if I want to get some great "downtown" shots.
Hmmm…now my next dilemma..need to choose a photographer! Ahh so many options!! Thanks for the help razvan and Miss Asb. Now I’m off to find some posts about some great Chitown photographers!

Hi Downtowngirl and Razvan!
I’m actually browsing through the Chicago local boards in search of someone to do our engagement photo. We just got engaged on Friday and since I now live in Dallas, and we plan on a destination wedding (http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/destination-location-with-a-chapel-beach-fun-and-history-help#post-), I’m looking for someone just for a few shots about our beautiful Chicago.
Chicago is home for us and where we met. Would love some suggestions on photographers!
BTW, Just saw Razvan’s website – BEAUTIFUL pictures! Loved the blog about the wedding in Alaska. Do you have friends in Chicago you can recommend?

We’ve chosen Michael Rastall for the wedding and engagement photos. We haven’t done our e-pics yet, so I don’t have personal experience with him. But he was very friendly when we met. Here’s his website, which includes pricing info.
We also really like Misty Winter when we met her. We ultimately went w/ Michael because of budget (Misty still is a good deal though). This is her website: http://mistywinter.com/
Hope this helps!

- Wedding: September 2009 - The 19th Century Club
My fiance – "Mr Stiletto" – is a photographer in Chicago. PM if you’d like his info!
And – back to the initial question on this thread – e-pics are great for save the date, your wedding web site, framing at the reception, using in your guest book, as well as just having some great pictures of you as a couple that aren’t are formal as your wedding pics. And as someone else said, you want your photographer to get to know you and your angles before the wedding day, and you want to be more comfortable with him/her!

My fiance and I had our engagement pictures taken by Rachel Gunderson (Rachel Gunderson Photography)- – website coming soon, but check out the engagement photos (under Photo Albums/Engagement Pics) here: http://www.triciaandbrent2009.com. Amazing shots and editing, friendly & flexible… plus very reasonably priced. Message me if you’d like her contact information for pricing/portfolio. She has a public facebook profile (I think!), so you can always check out more of her fabulous work there. You will not be disappointed!

Engagement shoots are a really important part of wedding photography, I work with the couple giving them tips about how to stand, romantic poses, kissing the right way ( yes there is a right and a wrong way to kiss in photos) and have the groom get comfortable with me as I have sometimes only met the bride and her mother. It also provides them with great photos to use for sign in books, montages, their websites, thank yous etc….

Yeah, I definately agree that it’s a great opportunity to work with the photographer before your big day. And on top of what the other ladies said, if you are announcing your engagement in the paper, you can use one of your engagement pics for that. We are having one framed for our Guest Book at our wedding, and will then hang it in our home 🙂
