With our photographer, we are using her for our wedding and engagement photos.  All together she is $750, and only wanted a $50 deposit before the engagement pictures, the rest the day of!

I know!  It took me quite a while to find her, had to look through pages of google (lol!) but I was NOT about to pay (have my parents pay…) over $1,000 for a photographer.  We weren’t even going to have one at first, I have quite a few friends who would have been willing to do it for $100.  Now I’ll have a professional AND my friends doing it (for free!) Good luck!!

My engagement photos were $250 including $50 worth of printing and a certain number (5 maybe?) of the digital files. We decided we wanted all of the digital files and it was an additional $250. That was near but sort of outside of the San Francisco Bay area. So things are pricey there. Also the photographer had to travel a couple hours from nearer the bay area up to the Sierra foothills for the photo shoot, and it was a couple hours long at two different locations. So longer session and more traveling would be more expensive than a short local session.

I paid $175 for our engagement shoot 🙂 I think they average between $150 and $300, depending on the photographer. I recommend using the same person you book for the wedding, so you have a chance to work together before the big day and get to know each other’s styles a bit!! Also, they may give you a small discount for booking both.

We paid $500 for a 2 hour shoot in 2 locations with 2 outfit changes. It was pretty flexible though, she definitely would have shot more if we wanted. It included a $100 print credit and a DVD of the high-res images.  She ended up giving us about 200 edited photos back, but did mention that was a lot. Typically she gives around 75-100 but she couldn’t pick out the best ones from our shoot so she gave us more.

I think $300-500 is pretty standard for an average photographer. More for the really exceptional ones.

prices are going to vary VASTLY depending on what quality/professional type of photographer you want, and where you’re located. my wedding package including engagement session is around $4000. I never saw any sites under $1500/2000! Mayber Canada is pricier for wedding stuff it seems..

@kristen182:  Hey, sometimes you just know people. We’re paying less than a grand (unheard of!) for our photographer + album + all rights + dvd + engagement shoot because he’s a long time family friend of FI’s and does amaaazing work. But even if he wasn’t a friend we’d be only looking at like 1800, which is still crazy low.

@leyla-bee:  I was going to ask about your wedding photographer but that makes sense now.

Our photog gave us engagement photos for free. We paid $650 for those plus 8 hour coverage on our wedding day.

Ours were free, my aunt took our photos. If we used a professional photographer it would probably have cost a few hundred dollars

We paid $135 for a post-wedding shoot, two locations, with edited images available to us soon. He charges the same for engagements.

We didn’t do an engagement shoot (couldn’t get it to work with my husband’s schedule) but I did bridal portraits and bridals/engagement shoots with my photographer are $1000 for three hours and 30-40 edited pictures.
