My family has planned an engagement party for us two days before our engagement pictures. Normally I would be SO excited and splurge with tons of food and drinks and really let go and just enjoy myself. But I am worried to do that being my engagement photos are two days later (no, I can not change the date of our pictures – or the engagement party unfortunately it is what it is unless I wait another month+ for our pictures which I REALLY dont want to do).
I am simply worried about my skin going crazy or bloating from all the salt and other bad stuff in the food that will be served. – I normally eat very healthy but enjoy splurging big at family parties.
Am I being crazy should I just enjoy myself and eat/drink whatever and then CHUG water the next day? Or is this something that would upset you also??
My fiancé of course like a man doesn’t understand my concern at all so I feel like I am being a bit of a wacko right now – which would actually make me feel better if I am just overreacting I just needed some honest opinion from other brides 🙂

Enjoy yourself! I guess avoid any foods that you know make you bloat really badly, but if you have a two day buffer I think you will be perfectly fine enjoying yourself and then going back to being healthy the next day 🙂

If your skin is as reactive as you say, you will do much more harm to it by stressing this much than just by eating a few unhealthy treats. Relax, and find a happy middle ground for enjoying your party without denying yourself the things you want and without pouncing on every salty thing that looks tasty. Moderation is key, as with pretty much everything else in life.

You’ll just have to control what you eat that day. Our parents threw us a huge engagement party 2 days before our engagement photos and that was reason enough for me to stick to salads and salmon!

Do you normally react this way to foods and drinks? Or are you just being cautious?

@mrskellytobee: I think it depends on you.
Me, splurging has zero affect on my skin etc; I’m lucky and very very rarely get spots, and if I do, they’re triggered by stress/illness. So, I personally would have no qualms about a nice binge!
If however you know you get breakouts if you eat certain foods, personally I’d avoid them, and stick with healthier options like fish and salad. These foods are just as enjoyable (IMPO) and you won’t be worrying about spots for your photos.
Bloating should really go down fairly quickly, so that wouldn’t be a worry for me.

It’s 2 days later. You won’t be bloated anymore. Go for a run (which releases sodium) and drink water and eat a lot of asparagus (natural diuertic) the day after the party and you should be fine! Unless, you react smoe way to these foods that isn’t the “normal bloat” reaction?

@ThreeMeers: more or less just being overly cautious. Don’t get me wrong though I do not have perfect skin and do tend to bloat a bit but I wouldn’t say its a guaranteed outcome if I eat and drink a lot.
@barbie86: I have had issues with my skin in the past but for the last year I have been using retina micro and seen a huge improvement! I unfortunately have never really noticed if certain foods break me out/bloat me so I think thats where my nerves come from.
@futuremrsk18: Thanks for the tips! I dont think I ever bloat more than the average person so I will absolutely go for a run, drink water, and eat aspargus (yum!)

@mrskellytobee: I just read that you break out sometimes and have been on retina – steer clear of dairy products. I don’t necessarily have any evidence to back this up, but I do think dairy makes you break out. When I eat less dairy, I break out less, so that’s my own personal study. 🙂

@Taeyers: you’re 100% right I will do way worse to my skin stressing then I will with anything i consume!

@elysion: +1 – and if here are any skin issues, your photog should be able to do some touch ups for you! It’s really no big deal (:

Yes, being silly. You can’t look much different in a day 🙂
