Did you get professional hair and/or makeup for your engagement photos? Photog suggested this and I’m not sure whether I really feel the need for it….but I could be completely wrong, so some feedback on what you’ve done would be great!

I got both, but I was hoping to make the make-up into a trial for my wedding. Unfortunately the make-up was horrible and so I didn’t go with that person. But I guess it was OK for the engagement photos.

I used the e-shoot as a makeup trial with my MUA. I thought it was a great move, since I needed to do the trial anyway!
ETA: I think having your hair/makeup done makes you feel your best and that will show in the pics. Is there a reason you are thinking you don’t want it done?

One of my regrets is that I didn’t get my makeup done professionally for my e-pics. I did my own and I wasn’t that happy with the way it photographed.

@oracle: The reason I don’t want to do it is purely financial – it’s just expensive. However, I totally agree that we feel at our best when we’re all done up, and that might be reason enough for me to do it.
I’m getting my engagement photos in a different city than my wedding, so I can’t use it as a trial. But it sounds like so far, the common response is to get it professionally done, which I guess I just didn’t expect. I guess I won’t feel so crazy going to get my hair and makeup done for this!

I did my own hair and makeup and it looked great! (You can find a post about them somewhere in my profile if you are curious) But, I am planning on doing it myself for the wedding as well–the engagement shoot was a great opportunity to try all the fancy makeup out on myself. If you DIY, get a foundation that is good in photos, like mac.

Yes! It looked like this:
I was very happy with the way it came out. I SHOULD be getting professional pictures back today *fingers crossed*…so hopefully I can see if it translated well in the good pictures (not ones from my phone!)

No. I wanted to look like myself & be casual.
So I braided my hair & it worked well with the fall & horse theme I do believe. But then again I did my own hair on my wedding day as well. Not braids though! haha

Maid/Matron of Honor is a hairdress/makeup artist so I was spoiled 🙂
If I didn’t have her I don’t think I would have gone to a salon, or if I did maybe just a blowdry.

I did but only bc a girl I went to hish school with does hair and makeup and I was using the e photos as an opportunity to see if I would use her for the wedding… I wont be… the make up wasnt bad or anything, just nothing like the pic I showed her. But by all mean it is not needed if you are capable of doing your make up and hair. Although ur photog may have suggested bc in photos make up doesnt show up the same so if you want it to show you should go a little heavier.

@Roe: Just looked at your pics, and they are absolutely adorable! And I love your hair. I am so not a DIY-er, especially when it comes to beauty – I’m not good at this stuff. So I’m probably not the best candidate to DIY for makeup is I guess what I’m realizing. Sigh.
@LizLemon: Ummmm, completely gorgeous. Wow. I can tell your makeup was professional but in a good way – it just looks like your face is perfect…and that’s definitely not a bad thing! Haha.
@Sweet.Sugar.Rose: Your engagement photos are ADORABLE! Love. There are wild horses where we’re getting ours done, and even though Fiance hates horses (don’t even get me started on this one….it’s so stupid), I’m hoping we can get some pics near/with them!

Yes, I did both. However, when I was engaged, I didn’t know about the big outdoor, photojournalistic e-pic shoots that all of you ladies have now. We just had portraits taken in studio, and I wanted to be sure that I would love them.

I had my makeup done by a friend who works for clinique. She also ended up doing my wedding makeup so it was kind of like a trial. I did my own hair which was good because it was so humid and I ended up a sweaty mess. So I’m glad I didn’t spend money on that ha.

I voted no but then realized that I’d scheduled my regular trim for th morning of our esession so I suppose that was a professional blow out.
