Engagement Photos - Looking Like Yourself

My fiance and I are getting our engagement photos done next week, and I'm a bit torn as to what to do with my hair - I have naturally wavy hair that I usually wear pulled back or down (with encouraged curls).  On occasion, I'll straighten it, and LOVE how I look with straight hair, but I don't do it too much - it's definetly a fancy occasion look for me.  For my wedding - I plan on wearing my hair in a curly up do, though.

So, Bees - what did you do for your enagement pics?  Is it OK to straighten my hair, or since it's something I don't do much, is it more important to "look like myself?"  I'm actually really torn about it!  And I feel more than a little crazy :)

I think that you should do what you're most comfortable with.  If you were going for just a regular photo, would you straighten?  How does your FH like your hair?  For me, i wanted to look a little fancy, but also relaxed too so i wore it the way I normally do.

Sounds like you feel more special with straight hair, and engagement is a special thing!  Whatever will make you feel most attractive.  Hairstyles will come and go, so 10 years from now who knows if curly will even "look like yourself" anymore.  I say do what makes you feel the most attractive!

I would go with straight hair if you like the look of it. It's a fancy day, so fancy hair is ok!

I went through the same dilemma, and I ended up going with my naturally wavy hair down, and then made a few loose spirals with a curling iron to enhance the waves.  My decision mainly was a result of realizing what my hair does once it's straightened, though:  It looks awesome for about a half an hour or so, then the curl tries to sneak back in and everything gets really stringy.

Personally, I think that I prefer seeing pictures of people looking like themselves, but you should do whatever makes you most comfortable!

We just got our pictures back, and honestly I'm not very happy with them.  MY FI looks great in every shot, and I just really wish I had thought more about my hair and outfit.  I wore my hair down, and our pictures were outside...and it was sort of windy, and I don't know...it just looks weird in a lot of the pictures.  I REALLY wish I had worn my hair up....so girls with long hair...I would definitely suggest that to you...unless you're doing your pics inside, or have really thick hair that won't get wind-swept. I think you're very smart to go with an up-do...I wish I did!

I think you should wear the straight hair.  It's a special occasion and will add a little flair to your photos.  Especially if you're planning on wearing it curly for the wedding, this might be a little change.

After much contemplation and decision, I think I have decided to do my hair into the semi-fancy up-do I often do for fancier occasions instead of wearing my hair down and straight - mostly because we're having our engagement photos at the beach, and I can just imagine having all of my photos with my hair attacking my face and my fiance!

So - I decided to say yes to fancy hair do.  Thanks!!
