I’ve spent countless hours on Pinterest and searching the internet for various ideas, and I thought I had this in the bag. Now that pictures are soon and the wedding is QUICKLY approaching, I feel like I’m in a fog and can’t quite concentrate on anything long enough to complete it. It’s terrible. With that being said, I can’t think of a darn thing that I wanted to bring as a prop. The only thing that comes to mind is an ampersand (&) sign – which I definitely haven’t gotten yet. Does anyone have any ideas? Pictures? lists?
The pictures are going to take place in a big barn on a LOT of land. So I guess we should stick to the rustic look. I don’t know what we’re going to wear yet. That’s a whole other issue.
I’m the type of person that overthinks and overplans things. This really shouldn’t stress me out like it has. I just don’t want to be in the middle of pictures, and want to kick myself for forgetting something. Help, please!!

With our engagement pics being on Monday I am in a panic about this as well, so I decided to write a brainstorm list this morning. We are going for a picnic theme…
- Picnic hamper
- Picnic blanket
- Cups and saucers
- Small bunch of flowers
- Bottle of something (probs pimms)
I figure we don’t need heaps and I have all of this stuff already so it’s not the end of the world if we don’t use it. I may buy a cheap string of bunting this weekend which we can re-use at the wedding.

I’ve seen the ampersands at Hobby Lobby, if you have one near you to buy one.
And I’m planning on painting a fleur de lis like this with our wedding date:

Chalkboards are good, because then you can decide what you want on the fly!
When my photographer asked me to bring props, I was stumped. Ended up bringing diddly squat, and it was more than fine. Sounds like if you’re at a barn, there might be interesting things already around!
That said, props are fun. 🙂

Oh I also see alot of retro luggage, egg crates, and old books.

@PimmsBride: the picnic idea sounds really cute. I hope your pictures turn out well! What are you going to wear? Just curious 🙂
@spotted_giraffe: I’m definitely hitting up Hobby Lobby tomorrow. I’m hoping if I walk around long enough, I’ll think of some more things. I love that fleur de lis. That’s a unique idea. I haven’t seen that yet.
@2BeeMrsE: I can’t believe I forgot about the chalkboard! Thanks for the reminder 🙂

My photos are in less than 2 weeks and I’m stressing like crazy too! Mostly on what to wear – I’m super self conscious so I’ve been grilling myself over outfits for months. If you’re curious about outfit ideas, I’ve posted a couple polls showing dresses I’ve been considering – although I think I’m going with a solid cream flowy, dress.
For props – What we’ve brainstormed so far:
- a smally rectangular chalk board in a teal metal frame hanging from a matching chain that I got at HomeSense
- Guitar (My FI plays casually)
- Fresh Hydrangeas
- Coffee (We’re going to get Timmies, but maybe bring mugs for nicer look)
- Champagne/wine and nice glasses
- Canoe (We’re doing ours at our Yacht Club on my dad’s boat and then around the club, beach, etc)
- The gorgeous box my ring came in – its a very unique two toned wooden box and I LOVE it… no idea if it’ll get used in photos, but I’m bringing it!
- Some sweets – butter tarts or something to nibble with wine or feed each other (corny but sweet)
- maybe a blanket
That’s all I’ve got so far

@beeanon97: You can make your own chalkboard very cheaply! Go to Dollar Tree and buy a picture frame, then go to a craft store and buy chalkboard paint. It comes out like spray paint! Just paint the glas part of the frame, let dry for allotted time, and there ya go!
Or just buy one – but I did this as my first ‘DIY’ if you can call it that, and it was fun 🙂

Oh, also… my dad works in our family business where they make commercial awnings and signs… I was thinking about getting him to make a metal or coloured cut out of FI’s last name, or Mr & Mrs… something like that… I love the last name idea tho – photos of us holding it together, or it can just be in the back ground…
I know not everyone has access to getting their own cut out like that, but you could get the individual letters from Michaels or Hobby Lobby (I’m canadian, we don’t have those lol) and do the same idea…

@beeanon97: We didn’t use any props specifically purchased or borrowed for engagement photos. I think they can be too distracting. Our photographer just followed us around as we spent a normal Sunday evening. We walked our dog around the neighborhood, shared some wine, and started cooking dinner together. I love how they turned out because they look natural, relaxed and capture a real slice of our life together.
I think if this is stressing you out, you should just let the idea of props go! Just be yourselves and your love will shine through!

What are some things tharepresent you as a couple? You shoule incorporate that to show your personality. For example, my FI and I have played ball together since we started dating, and have an impressive sunglasses collection, so we incorporated that into ours.
