Engagement Pics... what do you think this means?

Hi All!

My fiance and I are taking our engagement pics in August.  Our photographer told us to wear something casual.  My dilemma is what does that mean exactly?  Casual means different things to different people.  For me, casual can be jeans and a dressy tank top or even summery dress, but for others it can mean jeans and a tee.  I guess I can call and ask him, but I wanted the hive's opinion first.

Thanks!

Your engagement shoot should be exactly that ... YOURS! I'm sure he used a very vague phrase because you should take what he meant and do what your version is. They are going to be your engagement photos forever so do what makes you smile not what you think your photographer requires.

I think maybe by "casual" your photographer meant "comfortable."  On our engagement shoot we did a lot of walking, sitting, laying, jumping, being in weird positions, etc...  He probably wants you to wear something that you can easily move around in/change position in and wear for a long period of time comfortably.

It is your session like the others mentioned so casual is your interruption.  I did pictures with jeans/top and a summer dress.  I would just mention to your photographer that you would like to switch outfits if possible.

My photographer told me that too and I just laughed and responded that oh, no, I am wearing a dress! That's just who I am- I also did bring a jeans outfit to change into, but that was at the end. Wear what youwant and plan it around where you'll be taking pictures. Have fun!

Lol casual for me is stilettos and a cute flowy dress.  So I agree with to each his own.  He probably just wants you to be comfortable and able to move and bend and not look like your feet are killing you in every photo.

I think you should ware what you want your photos taken in. The photographers should have asked you for some input.

We dressed up for our engagement photos.  I can see my husband in jeans any day of the week.  Link

@ Niki:  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your e-pics.  And I completely agree with you... I can see my FH in jeans, well, in his case, sweats, any day of the week!

We usually suggest our clients to wear something comfortable (shoes & clothes) since they'll be walking and moving a lot.

Most clients bring a change set of close so they have a dressier outfit (dress/heels) as well as casual outfit (jeans/converse).

Like the bees above said, you should wear whatever is more you!

Hope this helps!

My suggestion is cute jeans and top with snazzy sandals, and/or cute sundress. HTH and can't wait to see how they turn out!

I agree with the other posters -- wear whatever you want to! =) I wore jeans and a fuzzy sweater (our engagement pics were taken in February in Canada), but had they been taken in summer I probably would have tried to dig up a sundress, or worn a dressier shirt.

The only thing I woulc caution against is requesting to take your photos at the park, and then wearing stilettos. It's hard to stand in the grass and under trees in super high heels. So sometimes I think it helps to dress for the location a little bit.

And bring some flip-flops to walk around in. You'll likely do lots of walking!

I agree with Flamingos comment... wear something that showcases you both and your personalities together.  Personally I would think go a little more on the dressy side bc these are engagement photos, but if you and the mister are strickly a jeans and T's kinda couple, stick with what you like!

Wear something COMFY and keep in mind how important FIT is for photos.   If you are wearing clothes that are too baggy .... it's adds weight.    You want clothing that fits you really well.
