Our photographer offers an engagement session as part of their “wedding package”. My feeling on them is that they are “nice to have”, but kind of unnecessary. I’m not sure what we would actually do with them? FI thinks it’s corny, but is willing to indulge me.
We are not having an engagement party, my mom did a newpaper announcement and save the dates already went out. I’m thinking it would be a good “practice” for our wedding day. Again, nice to have, but not an absolute necessity.
Did you do an engagement session? What did you use the pictures for?

Yes an engagement session is a good way to create a relationship with your photographer. You will find out how it will feel to smile on command and have a camera in your face. You can display the photos at your wedding some people use them for your save the dates

I agree that it is a great trial run before the wedding. Although we got WAY too many e pics I was very glad we did them. It gave us a list if do’s and don’ts for the wedding and a few great pics we framed in our home.
If it’s part of your package I say definitely do them. 🙂

I think engagment sessions are such a nice way to capture your relationship and the time you are in at the moment (pre wedding and loved up!) when are you really going to have another oportunity to have a portrait session just with you and your partner? (aside from wedding photos?)
we had our engagment session a week or so ago, and it was soo much fun and thoroughly enjoyed it, i would deff recommend it!

At first I thought they were corny, but now that I had them done, I can’t be more happy I did them. They are a great way to capture you two looking your best, great practice for your wedding (it is a LONG day and they take a TON of photos), and I actually had a lot of fun. We’re using the photos as a guest book and also may blow up our fav photo to canvas to hang in the bedroom or living room. I’d say just go for it. You’ll be happy you did

If both parties aren’t excited about the idea of an engagement session, often times it will show in the photos.
