I’m curious to see responses. FI and I are also big Harry Potter, Star Wars, and HUGE LotR fans. My FI is a fantasy artist so we’re kind of having a whimsical vintage faerie theme… don’t want it to be too childish.

But I’ve been trying so hard to think of what to do for E-pics. I was thinking that maybe since we’re having such a different wedding our E-pics should just be kind of normal and very natural. I was thinking of maybe having elements from our wedding here and there, but for the most part having it just be the normal “us”.

I want to see the suggestions you get though… we’re in the same boat.

We spent a longggg time trying to figure out a themee,, i went through ideas that matched our wedding, themes of things we liked, nothing felt right so we just got dressed up in some nice cloths, out to a place that was significant to us and just did it, n I loved them! there doesnt always have to be a theme =D

Harry Potter theme sounds awesome! Maybe not literally Harry Potter, in terms of getting everything exactly but if you include small elements in every photo I think it would come across. Like, if you both held wands (and close ups of the wands can show off your ring!), long cloaks (or just long jackets), maybe follow a colour theme of one of the houses. And if you find an old looking building (brick or stone) that would be a cool place to shoot.

FI and I are nerds as well and he wanted to do a zombie theme engagement shoot so that’s what we did! I didn’t want it to be gory so I like to describe them as “pretty but there’s something odd” pictures, like the one in my avatar.

Hope this kinda helped!

I JUST saw this. I like how they added in a little bit of Harry Potter. Maybe these two can give you some inspiration. =)

Engagement Photos!

I like how they didn’t go all out with the theme but especially if you used some little Harry Potter things here in there for the pictures for STDs it would be a little “preview” of sorts. =)

@Msmay14:  That’s awesome!!! On one hand I kind of want to do something completely awesome like that, but I also want normal pictures… like for facebook. And to have on my desk at work, haha. =P I’m not sure what I want..

@YogaFaerie:  you can still get both! I have one picture from that shoot of just the two of us and its nice enough that I gave it to my parents, framed. after we did the goofy, fun ones, we took pics of just us, sans guns and zombie elements. Unless you want to go all out with costumes and make up, etc, you can still get really nice portraits in the same session.

Here’s a link to it, if you’re interested: http://www.loveoutloudstudios.com/?s=Zombies&search=Search

Our wedding theme is Dia de los Muertos.  Our shoot was taken at the Seattle Center during their Dia de los Muertos festival.  We got some city shots around the Seattle Center, pics near the fountain and monorail, and then some indoor shots of us having fun at the festival.

@YogaFaerie:  Those are my pictures 🙂  Thanks for the compliment!

My FI and I are super nerdy (well mostly me), and we wanted our photos to reflect that, but we also wanted nice photos.  What we did was use two locations and three outfits.  The first location was at an airplane musuem and we wore nice clothes, the second location was at our favorite bar.  For the second location we did the Harry Potter theme, we wore our ties and had our books.  For our third outfit I wore a t-shirt that says “Trekkie” she wore a t-shirt that says “I <3 Trekkies”.  I love that we were able to get a nice mix of dressy pictures that we love, but we also got some nerdy shots.  We had way more fun shooting our nerdy pictures just because that is what felt more natural to us, but our family prefers the dressier pictures.

I love Harry Potter! You could also steal ideas from the Delacour/Weasley wedding in the last book. If I were doing a Harry Potter theme I would probably go with a lot of gold (Fleur’s bridesmaids in deathly hallow book wore gold, golden snitch, or you could do red and gold. Gryffindor!) I actually think it would be kind of cute to do regular tuxes but with “hogwarts-like” ties or something similar. I could also see lots of centerpieces ideas: golden snitch, house animal statues, Owls, cats, crystal balls, piles of books or old candles. You could also do a celestial design (very wizardy). Harry Potter might not be overly romantic, but I do think the whole snape love story is beautiful (but heartbreaking. 🙁 )

Maybe for engagement photos you could look into the mirror of erised and see each other? haha I also love that Harry Potter photo shoot that yogafaerie posted on here.

The rest of the stuff you said you are into I don’t know as much about, I could definitely see a “lord of the rings” theme with the engagement ring the center focus and maybe you dressed up as Arwen or whoever. (Sorry not as familar with those stories.) Also, a super hero theme could work with one of you rescuing the other in a vintage pulp comic look.

It would also be completely over the top, but now I want to have a wedding hall look like the great hall, have the wedding party at the “staff table” and sort the guests into houses.

There could be four long guest tables each with maybe a statue corresponding to each house at the center (Lion, Eagle, Serpent, and Badger) and when guest arrive there would be a small table with guest cards (maybe a sorting hat), but instead of “Jane Smith table 3” It would say “Ravenclaw” or havea picture of an eagle or something. Maybe even a wand instead of a card. This probably wouldn’t work at all ofr a wedding, but might be fun for a party.
