I just got my engagement pictures back from my photographer who said “we got a lot of good ones, over 50!” I excitedly clicked on the link and scrolled through picture after picture hoping to see one that was a “good picture”. He didn’t actually retouch any of the pictures (acne scars and dark circles) and the ones where you could see my body, I had horrible back fat. I look pregnant in some of the pictures but mostly just lumpy and short. I’m not short though and I don’t think I’m actually that big. I’m in size 12 jeans during this shoot and had lost 70 pounds at the time of the pictures. Fortunately, one of my bridesmaids was chatting with me online when I got the email and she offered to retouch them for me. Thank god for graphic design majors with awesome photoshop skills!
These are the ones that made it to our website and on other social media.

The second to last one would be cute for a save-the-dates.
I think they’re adorable and awesome. You’re being really nitpicky, and it’s only natural because we are our own worst critics.
Your makeup rocks. It’s like a subtle cat-eye effect done with shadow rather than liner.
Question, though. Why do you think a woman would have done a better job?

@amandaandzachwed: 2nd photo is the best ive seen in awhile for engagement photos!

Well done on the weightloss! I think you look great in these photos! From what you’ve said I understand that these are the ones you are happy with from the 50 or so he gave you though? I would be questioning why he didn’t touch any of them up? Is that in the contract? Will he touch the wedding photos up?

I don’t understand… why would one gender be a better photographer than the other?

What does gender have to do with quality?

@amandaandzachwed: you look so beautiful!

I think the pictures look great! You look gorgeous!
@Hyperventilate & @Payless: +1. Not quite sure why a woman would have done better work. Our wedding photographer was a guy, and he did an absolutely amazing job. I honestly can’t imagine our pictures coming out any better.

@CorvusCorax: I don’t know, I feel like women are more aware of flattering angles. Or she might not have felt uncomfortable telling me that something looked bizzare.

I think you are picking them to pieces, with no oood reason.
They look great to me, I don’t see any way a woman would have done a better/ more flattering job.. seriously, they are fun pics and i see no backfat!

I have to disagree. I’m sure all photographers regardless of gender want to make their subjects look as good as they can. That’s kind of the job of a photographer.

@amandaandzachwed: I would have never noticed a problem with these if you didn’t bring anything up! They are beautiful! One thing that may help is that when a cardigan hits the hip like that (the widest part of the body for a lot of us) it can make you appear shorter/wider in that area compared to a longer “boyfriend” (what old navy calls them) cardigan that elongates and slims over that area. I have a really short torso and super long legs so I find tricks like these help balance me out! Seriously though, you look lovely!
