- Wedding: September 2012
Sooo just a little background: my fiance and I met/fell in love on vacation in Cancun when we were 18 way back in 2005 and have been back and forth between London, UK to Orange County, CA for the past 6.5 years… Needless to say we are ready to make the big moves and are super excited to be married in September!
We were engaged in August 2011 and I have been planning like crazy since. He came for about 10 days ending last week (boo) to get involved in the wedding frenzy I’ve created here and SO it was really important to me to do our engagement session while he was here because he probably wont be back in CA until a few weeks before the wedding.
SO my challenges with hiring a photographer were:-I want beautiful, lifestyle candid photos with great photoshop editing skills.-I want an engagement session & 7-8 hours of photography. -I want two cool, down to earth, modern, relatable photographers (one guy & one girl) that we are both comfortable with so that Fiance isn’t awkward or annoyed during in the process. He doesn’t like posing for photos and I HATE seeing his “forced” smile next to my shiny one.-I want someone with experience with the challenging lighting of the beach/ocean/harbor. I want to see the boats & etc and most photographers I’ve seen have unfortunately let the light block them out.and the kicker- I want it all for $2800.
Yeah so needless to say I’ve seen a lot of photographer’s websites and they either lack the artistic, modern eye I’m looking for, are out of my budget, or are totally unrelatable to myself and my fiance.
I fould Studio 28 photography – studio28photo.com
They are a husband and wife combo that live down the street from our venue and they’re pretty rad people with not the longest experience history but definitely have quality work.
We met with them on Friday. We liked them and their work. We could afford their base package (and they offered to throw in an engagement session on top because of the time constraints of our relationship and the fact that we were getting married on a Friday so they’ll be able to work the rest of the weekend). We were time crunched and had only 2 days to decide… so we booked them.
We had our photoshoot on Sunday evening and it was fun…
I had so many prop ideas (like our passports and our different currencies) that I had asked them to incorporate somehow and told them about at the beach and they said we’d do something with them but we didn’t… I brought it up after the sun had gone down and they were apologetic and said when they’re in “detail mode” at the wedding they’ll definitely be able to incorporate those props then… but I am afraid I’ll have too much on my plate to remember then and I really wanted it at the engagement session…
also the sunset… the sky is sort of washed out like I didn’t want and that worries me for our wedding day.. I don’t really want the sky just whited out.
I want the colors of the gorgeous sunset involved!
Also I found it kind of a red flag when I had to ask THEM if we could get a shot of the ring?
Shouldn’t an engagement session include a shot of the ring?
even if in a naturally posed way?
That made me nervous that I was giving THEM ideas instead of them leading the session…
We have already booked them and have paid our deposit aka $950 but I saw that their session fee is only $450 so if we switch to a photog that has more experience (aka my friend’s photographer could give us 6 hours for $2750 and she’s done many many weddings but is a all-female photographer duo) we could have another engagement session and be possibly more confident in our photogs?
I’m so confused!
My fiance says its really not a big deal and that they’re cool and he’s “sure they will do a good job” but I’m a little iffy…
so other brides~ What do you think of our sneak peek AND do you think the above concerns are valid? do we have a few red flags on our hands?
Unfortunately, the couple also went outta town for two weeks a few days after our shoot so I wont see the rest of the photos until they return and edit the rest… So I can’t even see the majority of the shots for another two weeks… that’s driving me crazy too! haha
Should I be concered?
Has anyone had similar experiences?
Thanks for reading! xoxox
