Please don’t get your diamond from Jared.. they’re so over priced! My best friends ring is from Jared.. she has a SI2, I color 1 ct cushion cut with a channel set setting. Her entire set cost over 6k. Her stone alone was around 4.5k — the stone would’ve been around 2k on James Allen. She was shocked when I was shopping around and was telling me she wished she would’ve gone online because the prices were so much better.

My stone is from James Allen and my setting is from Shane Co. My diamond isn’t covered by Shane Co but I have insurance on it under my renters insurance. I initially wanted to get a setting from Jared but they’re customer service was horrible at the location near me. If you go to thier Facebook page there are SO SO SO many complaints. I ended up going with Shane Co because I still wanted somewhere to go in case I needed my ring resized etc.

ETA: when I was shopping around at Jared and doing research on thier FB page someone left a comment saying that they had to take thier ring to another jeweler because Jared screwed up thier ring twice.. once she went to the other jeweler they told her Jared had fixed her ring with super glue! I’m sure not all locations are that sketchy but it’s really hit or miss.
Good luck!

Also when I was shopping for diamonds I asked Shane Co for prices on the same diamond I wanted from James Allen. My GIA 1ct, F color, VS2 was 4.5k from JA and a similar GIA diamond from Shane Co was over 6k — brick and mortars over price thier diamonds like crazy!

@kab27:  i got my diamond from jared’s. its a 1ct, G color, SI2 and paid $4600, however i do love it and would not trade it for the world. The setting is awesome and the diamond is very secure. They do have an awesome warranty as well as a great diamond trade in so if you ever decide you want to upgrade you can trade in your diamond for the value that you paid.

I got my diamond from Jareds.  It is a .81, E SI2 and its beautiful!  It cost a little under 2K.  I don’t think that is bad at all.  I can tell you their quality is pretty good.  If people have issues, its usually with the designers themselves, such as Neil Lane.  Certain Neil Lane rings have some bad reviews and that wouldn’t be Jared’s fault.  I got my ring resized and it wasn’t their best work, so instead of having the guy just solder it, he had him completely redo it.  I think it depends on your area because the one I got to values the service and quality they provide to their customers.

I work with 2 people who used to work at Jared’s. From what they have told me Jared’s is way over priced. If you’re going to a chain jeweler (which I don’t think there is anything wrong with!!!) you can definitely find much less expensive options with at least the same quality if not better.

For your peace of mind, go Jared’s! I have a $7,700 centerstone, and their policy on loose/missing stones is AMAZING. There’s a thousand locations and you can get your ring cleaned for free at all of them, and the salespeople there always seem more knowledgeable than elsewhere. My fiance apparently had this AMAZING saleslady who found out his budget (9.5k) and helped him design a ring that was perfect and on budget EXACTLY! It’s perfect, by the way. And ULTRA sparkally! She pointed him towards quality over quantity, which was the best!

Check with local jewelers to see what kind of policies they have.  Mine is a local store and it has the best warranty in our town, better than Jared’s.  Mine will order or make any ring setting you wanted and charge you less than the big chain store as well.  Mine will replace any lost stones for repair the setting for the lifetime of the ring, redip and resize for your lifetime, and there is no requirement for 6-month inspections. While the 6-month checkups are good to have, you’ll find if you accidentally miss one from Jared’s your guarantee will no longer be in place.  Life is busy, things can be missed.   Also my jeweler will upgrade the stone and put all our purchase cost toward any stone we want costing at least $1 more.  At Jared’s you have to go to double the cost in order to get your money back in an upgrade.

No no NOOOOOOO do not get a ring from Jareds!!! I speak from experience! Recent experience, and I would love to save someone else the waste of time and money that I went though! They do not stand behind their products! Their sales people were very nice and informative, but their workmanship is absolute garbage.

Their “warranty” is crap too, and doesnt really cover what theyd like you to think it does. It doesnt even go in effect until 90 days out! I had a problem with my ring, and the head jeweler at the Jareds I bought it at was incapable of fixing it (He worked on it for four hours, brought it out and I immediatly could see that the main stone was crooked! How hard is that?!) , and so I took it to a different Jareds and they told me I had to wait until 90 days out for them to fix it or else theyd lose money! The lady even admitted that it was horrible to turn me away with a messed up ring and tell me to wait, but the manager wouldnt authorize her to have it fixed until they could get paid to fix it from the warranty. WTH?!

Their Customer Care line is crap too. I called to try to work out SOME kind of resolution (they mysteriously kept it past my 30 day exchange period while “fixing it”) and they had me talk to 5 different people over the course of 2 weeks, and each time they were like, “Hmmm. That doesnt seem right…..” No kidding. Finally I asked for a refund they went from polite to RUDE. “NO. ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS.” they told me I could exchange it, or keep the messed up ring, period. I exchanged it, and while the new ring is much better, the quality is still sub par at best. Im now looking at having the diamond reset elsewhere and just eating the cost. 🙁 I will never purchase anything from Jareds again, and I will beg everyone else to avoid them as well.

I got my setting and wedding band from Jared’s and I love it! My Fiance actually got my first setting and center stone from James Allen, and they were amazing to work with! But I didn’t like having to FedEx my ring to them to get work done on it. Then when we started looking for wedding bands I couldn’t find a single ring I liked with the James Allen setting. So I found a band I loved at Jared’s and it turned out there was a matching engagement ring to go with it! So we decided to have my James Allen stone reset in the Jared’s setting.

The people at my store were absolutely amazing! They were nice and friendly and not pushy at all. They let us take our time with deciding and we actually left to talk about it before making the final decision. They understood it was a major decision and wanted us to be sure. Also, the work I had done on my rings was fabulous! They set my diamond and had to resize it and it looks amazing.

Jared’s gets a bad rap, but I think it really depends on the individual store. Our is located in a more high-end area of town, so this might make a difference. But I have no regrets about going with Jared’s and I plan on going back for future purchases!

Here is a picture of my Jared’s setting and James Allen diamond!
