I have a round solitaire set on a thin pave band. I wear a size 4.5 and I think the thinner band really makes the diamond "pop". I think the width is either .5 or 1 mm. I've attached a pic so you can see if it would be something you would like.
Pricescope.com is great for education as well as inspiration! Here's a thread you might like:

check out blue nile. these are both yellow gold and not at all tacky looking in my opinion.
(I LOVE the first one)

I suggest that you look for something with a matching wedding band. I have a dainty thin band and it did NOT have a matching band. Now we have to get something custom-made for the wedding band and that is expensive! I'm in Canada so I can't really help you out with particulars.
Something with a matching wedding band is my advice.
Thanks guys! Love Laura's ring. And going to check out the pricescope boards.
Here's my ring, which sounds a lot like what you might be looking for - I don't know where my FH purchased it, sorry, but its 14k yellow gold, and a .75 rounf cut diamond, about 2mm band, and is size 5.
Hey girly.
My FH got my ring from Rogers and Hollands. They have a great variety. I wanted something so unique and "antique" as well. I told him I didn't want a cirlce or square because everyone has them! The Marquise diamond is the most rare and elegant diamond there is. I know it became famous because some Queen in some country made it famous. Not sure which one, lol! But anyway. Here is a picture of mine. Don't look at their website because they don't update it. They have a great selection in the stores. Also, at Jared... You can create your own ring. This way you get exactly what you want. I know mine is nothing like what you're looking for, but it's really unique and I think you might like the antique looks of it. Let me know if you need any more help. I'd love to help you out.

@mrsT2b- I LOVE the first ring you posted. :)
Mine is from bluenile too. Its a cushion cut on platinum pave band. I'm sure you could get the same thing in yellow gold though! I love cushion cut stones... I think they're very unique/romantic.
@lander5 I just want to say that I am in the SAME EXACT boat as you. My SO and I have been looking at rings and even though he knows the exact diamond he wants to purchase he wants me to pick out the setting and I just cannot decide. He's getting a round diamond and I think it's somewhere between .75 and .85 carats (he's being vague since he wants to surprise me :) ) My ring size is 4 1/2 so I also want something small and thin because of my tiny hands. At first I thought I wanted something like this:

but we realized that the wedding band would not fit snug against the e-ring. I'm now leaning toward something like this:

Ehhhhh I can't make up my mind!! :) I know they're not antique, but I hope this helps.... and let us know what you end up with!
You can find really beautiful antique and/or estate rings on the below sites. Several antique/estate rings are set in yellow gold and the diamonds are usually between .5 - .8 which I think is what you're looking for...If you want, browse the below sites...They're a lot of fun and have lots of pretty's
Mine's a .75 carat round diamond with side princess-cut sapphires in a platinum setting. I think the band is about 2.5 mm. I wear a size 4 ring and was worried about a too-big e-ring but this one is perfect. I agree with other comments about getting an e-ring with matching wedding band. Mine is hard to pair with a band too and I'm having one custom made.
@Laura27: Hi, I love your ring! This is exactly what I want! Who is the designer? Where did you buy it? What's the price range? I need it :)
Here's mine! A large center diamond, two smaller diamonds on either side, and then chanel diamonds along the band.
The second one is my great grandmother's diamond I had reset. It's just a simple tulip setting

Hi everyone!
This is my first post :) Me and my boyfriend are high school sweethearts and have been dating for over 6 years now. We started looking for rings a few weeks ago, but I haven't found anything I really love yet. We are looking for about a .75 ct center stone (round, princess, or cushion) with something on the sides. I like thin, dainty bands (5 1/2 ring size, so the big ones look silly on me). Something not tacky in yellow gold is my dream or antique looking.
Any one have any suggestions? I am getting treally frustraed looking and want to be officially engaged!
Thanks for any help offered.
