    Hi! Our one year anniversary is approaching (wedding..best day of my life!), and want to add more *sparkle* to my engagement ring. When we looked at rings when getting engaged, I was focused on getting the best diamond solitaire we could afford. We basically spent 98% of the ring budget on my beautiful 1.52 cushion cut diamond, and it looks lovely in the plain solitaire. However, I was thinking that a halo or sidestones would enhance the beautiful curved shape. Please show me your halo, sidestone, or upgraded rings!

    My engagement ring :)

    option 1: Halo

    option 2: sidestones

    option 3: halo AND sidestones.

    I think side stones would work wonderfully.

    Honestly I'm not the biggest fan of halos haha. I've seen some really nice ones on here but overall, I think side stones are the better choice.

    @Bebealways:

    I never thought i was a halo person and that they were just used to make the ring look bigger, but after looking online at some quality micropave halo, they enhance the shape of cushions beautifully. Of course I would have to try them on, they might look terrible....I have big unelegant fingers...size 8.

    I am torn between the side stones...what do you think of fancy yellow colored sidestone??

    @almostmrst:  You have a lovely set already! I'm torn between the first two options.  Hard decision to make. I would try some different styles on and see how they look and how you feel in them, what pleases your eye in a picture may not be what you like when it's on your finger.

    @Birdi:  Definitely need to do try on's first....some rings look amazing online or on other people, And I dont have the most slender fingers, size 8. Some of the ladies on here have lovely dainty size 3 which makes a 0.25 carats look huge. LOL...I could easily pull off 3 carats.

    What do you think of fancy yellow sidestones....I am a little obsessed with the idea.

    Yaay! I am excited. Its like engagement ring shopping all over again, except less stressful because you have the perfect center stone already! I will take pics when I do try-ons and post them for sure!

    @almostmrst:  I am a massive coloured stone fan, so I would plump for colour in every ring :-) check out Diamonds by Lauren for some inspiration for coloured-clear stone combinations!

    Thanks, she did have some rings with yellow fancy side stones! :) Most people have a FY center stone with white diamonds on the side.

    @almostmrst:  I like your ring the way it is now better than any of the options you listed!  Could you get a RHR instead?  Seriously its beautiful!  The band is sleek and I love the 4 prong look.

    thank you! I just think the center shape could be enhanced a bit. Definitely keeping the same claw prongs and same mm size band :)

    I wouldn't add a halo. I LOVE halos, I'm getting one. but I'm getting it because I like how they look surrounding my colored stone. I don't like them as much when they are on already big and beautiful white diamonds, I actually thing they take away from the stone personally. Considering I'm getting a yellow sapphire center stone, I voted colored side stones!

    @almostmrst:  my center is colored with white sides, but the color contrast is soo appealing to me in any ring.

    I love the set as is, but if I had to go with one, I'd pick sidestones.  With you wedding band, I think a halo would just make it all look too busy.

    @MASPA:  ahh I always love seeing your ring :-) how does the yellow look IRL? Mine is a fancy light and I'm happy with the colour unset but hoping there's going to be some enhancement once it's in its gold basket...

    . Oh! Fricking A! That is so beautiful! I actually saw a post of your ring and it gave me the colored stone lust! And if I get a side stone definitely trapezoids :) how big is your center stone if I may ask?

    @Corgi-cariad:  aw thanks.  That actually is a real life photo, but done all fancy-like from the jeweler (the thick dark vertical line under the ring is actually the tongs holding it up).  I actually have some lower quality photos circulating the bee that I took.  Mine is a fancy intense and its set in yellow gold.  The color is bright all the time, but I guess that comes with the intense color grade.  I told DH I wanted at least a fancy light because I love the lemony color tones.  I imagine your yellow will really pop once its set in yellow.  You'll have to post photos!

    @almostmrst:  My center is a 1.1 cushion.  I always wanted trapezoid side stones but they are hard to come by.  Great choice!!

    I thought about doing another matching eternity ring on top, but I have short fingers :( I drew the short finger gene in my family...my mom and sis fingers are long-they can palm a basketball, with slim chopstick fingers :P

    You wanted to get fancy yellow trapezoids? Uh oh...if they are hard to get I might pay a lot for this upgrade :(

    It looks like you have white diamond trapezoids and the a tapered baguette on each side...is that right?

    I'm not a halo girl. I have a cushion with sidestones:

    I also love the look of 2 half moons as sidestones, 1 on either side of a cushion cut...like this

    @pinkshoes:

    Hmmm...agreed. and the pave halo diamond would be different size than in my wedding band. Might look a little crazy. :/

    @almostmrst:  oh no i wanted white ones, but in my neck of the woods they are hard to find, just because they are atypical side stones, and I wanted step cut ones.  Ive seen yellow ones (online), but not step cut.  Step cut any color stone is uber rare and stupid expensive.  And yup those are my side stones.

    @WhatMaeBee:  Ha that's almost exactly my ering except my sidestones are tension set instead of prong (and it's a cushion even though we originally saw it with a round)

    @bkrocks13:  A-may-zing. hahaah...I LOVE it. I keep thinking about re-setting mine (FI would probably kill me, and I'm probably crazy), but if I did-I think I'd do it with 2 halfmoons on the side! If you don't mind, what is the weight of the center diamond and the weight of your half moons? LOVE IT.

    @WhatMaeBee:  Thanks so much! I love it- its a little bit different because the band is really heavy even though it's not super wide and it's a trapazoid shape (like a modified comfort fit.) The center is 1.65, vvs1, F and the sides are each .27 so the tw is about 2.19-2.2.

    This is the specific one which we modified to hold the cushion: http://www.stuartmoore.com/url/product:30-06-162

    i HIGHLY recommend that jeweler, FI had a great experience with them and the ring is absolutely perfect

    I love the solitaire as is, but if you want an upgrade, then i prefer the sidestones to the halo.

    BEAUTIFUL CUSHION by the way! I like how cushions are rarer than rounds and yours is soo pretty.
