It is awkward! My FI and I are really playful, so before he proposed (but after I knew it was coming) I would usually tease him and say something like, "Yeah, get her what she REALLY wants," and poke him or something. He'd usually respond with something similarly teasing. Turning it into a joke sort of took away the awkwardness.
Hahaha! You have more grace than I do - every time one comes on in our house, I playfully give him "the look." He says, "I know, I know!!"
Sidenote, do you girls know the Kay's commercial with the couple looking out the window of a cabin in a storm? Next time you watch it, pay attention to the man, he's literally like, the worst actor ever! Totally montone, he's like, "In all the years we've been coming here, I've never seen a storm like this." It cracks me up every time!

Ohh my gosh. I think I'm just extra awkward this year because now I actually *know* it's coming... and I don't wanna blow my cover! aaah!
@kirabee - gah, I hate that commercial so much. FI and I make fun of it every single time it comes on because it is just so bad. Horrible actor!!!
They are sooooo cheesy and awkward!! Although, I do like the one jewelry commercial where the car is talking and the dude has to put a necklace on the gps system?? Funny

lol ON Family Guy they were making fun De Beers? commercial, you know, the one with the shadows? So you see the shadow man give the shadow woman a ring and then she goes down on him and it's like "Diamonds....she'll pretty much have too." or something like that. ha ha ha. So everytime those commercials come on, my SO looks at me and then looks down at his pants. Ugh! lol

Those commercials are sooo cheesy but it still sucks watching them when you're still waiting, wishing your guy would just propose already. At least the big proposal won't be that dang cheesy lol
Yes, at first I thought "Oh good maybe he'll get the point" but now I'm totally annoyed by them. I think I will start teasing my man now when they come on in a joking way to lighten the mood. I love the De Veers skit!! You girls are cracking me up!!
@kirabee: lol I always joke with the boy that he sounds like he's some serial killer or something! That commercial is HORRIBLE!
I find it super awkward as well... it's funny, last night there was this one commercial on and it was saying all this crap like "be the hero in her love story" or something like that.
I couldn't help but crack up. I tried to find it online but had no luck, sadly. I really wanted you guys to see it! :(

My SO and I were just discussing this. I just simply pointed out imagine if those commericials were all year long. That's how often I get asked when we're getting engaged. He may have finally gotten the point about how annoying that can be.
I wanted to be engaged for 3 years before FI finally popped the question, so last year around this time I'd had it! I would make a scene every time I saw those "Jared" commercials.. as in I would change the channel in a huff or I would turn off the TV.. and on one occasion I stormed out of the room!! Yea, I was pretty dramatic =)

@MsMamaBear: I haven't seen that one yet but I love the one (for the Diamond Exchange, I think) that says "DIAMONDS: What she really wants!" Reminds me so much of the Family Guy clip that @Miss Tattoo posted!!
@MsMamaBear: Lol I used to see it when I lived in Boston, haven't seen it lately (or on the west coast). I tried to find it online but all I came up with was this one. Pretty hilarious though!
OMG. I felt the same way before FI and I got engaged. I used to take turns ignoring it and/or making fun ot it. I am not going to lie--I may have also changed the channel once or twice under the guise of looking for a better program to watch than the one we were watching ;)
I don't have cable, so I don't have to sit through these commercials with my SO. However, there seems to be an abundance of engagements and weddings in most of the holiday specials we've watched on DVD. They are equally silly and cheesy, but I have to admit- I thought that the wedding scene was really cute in 'Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town.' I may have leaned on my SO's shoulder a bit more during that part!
I hate them as well. We don't watch much TV, but you're so right, they're EVERYWHERE. And some of them are soooo stinkin' cheesy. We usually just tease each other about it.

Well, ladies, engagment season is back again and in full force it seems!!
Last night, SO and I were watching tv, and just about every other commercial was from a jewelry store. Diamond this, engagement ring that... this Christmas get her what she really wants, etc. etc.... It was SO UNCOMFORTABLE! Do I pretend that I don't notice? Do I say something to make fun of it? Do I look away? Do I act disinterested? Do I take the opportunity to gague his reaction? Aaaahh!!
Anyone else find that all the proposal-y ads make for a super awkward situation when they come up with your SO there?!
