My Fiance and I didn’t do engagement pics, because they just weren’t important or a priority for us. That being said, I think it’s a good idea to have them done again so that, like you said, you get an idea of your photographer’s style. Plus, you have the added bonus then of getting what you want.

We did a reshoot a few months ago. Not sure why our photos came out  so bad the first time but they were bad. We decided to do a reshoot after explaining to our photographer what we were looking for in our engagement and wedding photos. Anyways, we were much more comfortable the 2nd time as we knew what to expect, how we wanted our photos and with that little time passing were even more in love from all the excitement from wedding planning. A reshoot willgive you an opportunity to get comfortable with your photographer andget a sense of their style. They are the vendor you’ll probably spend the most time with on your day so you should be sure they are someone you are comfortable with.

I pretty much did the exact same thing. A good friend did ours, they were good, but not what we envisioned to use for our save the dates. Booked our photographer and the package included engagement photos. Had them done again and are head over heals IN LOVE with them, and we used them for our save the date. You only get married once so I say get as many done as you’d like 🙂 I like having two sets of photos to look back on, one is very summery and casual and the other (our wedding photographer) is more urban and fancy.

I don’t think it sounds crazy to redo them, especially if you aren’t happy with them and you have a different photographer for the wedding. I almost see engagement pics as the “hair and makeup trial”, you are getting comfortable, seeing how you work togther and seeing if you like their work. 🙂

Coming from the other side of things, please please make sure you talk to your friend about how much you appreciate them taking your first set of pictures.

I took a good friends engagement pictures TWICE for free and they went on to have a “professional” take them eventually and never said a word to me.  The pictures went up on facebook and I was extremely hurt, as they had never expressed that they disliked my pictures and never told me that they would be doing this again with someone else.

Reading your situation: I think ean e-pic re-do session is defintiely a GOOD plan.

It would be great to get to know your wedding photographer, and you could have a chance to have another set of gorgeous photos.

@KateByDesign:  really good point.  I think definitely stressing the “get to know the photographer” thing would be important to save face with your friend.
