@astromeg: You should talk to the jeweler where you purchased the ring. Different designers, ring widths, ring sizes, etc all have different engraving limitations. For example, I had my husband's band engraved with "to us and ours." The jewelry store wasn't sure if the short verse would fit because the designer of my husband's ring always puts a signature stamp inside.

Any of you ladies have experience with the engraving process? We're going to order our wedding bands sometime in the next few weeks (omg that's surreal to type out) and while I'm certain that I want to engrave something in his ring, I'm not certain that my verse will fit. :-( What's typical in terms of # of characters? Sources I've found on the internet has varied greatly....
