well abdomen is a general term for the belly area- so it could mean enlargement of any of the many organs in that region. Unfortunately without more information there isn't much I can tell you
The assistants from my doctor's office are usually the ones to call me. I've had a couple of problems with blood work and blood pressure, and it is usually their job just to get me scheduled to come into the office and talk with the doctor. I have yet to talk with the actual doctor on the phone at 30 weeks.
Mine also calls me at work most of the time- I'd rather know sooner and get something scheduled, rather than wait to get home.
The assistants only have so much information that they can legally give out, the rest is the doctor's job. It sounds like they are requesting further tests to find out what is going on exactly and the doctor doesn't even know everything yet.
I know you are upset with the situation right now, but it doesn't sound like your office has done anything out of the ordinary.
I agree with lemondrop - so far when I have had any issues that needed follow-up (like when my random glucose was high) it was the nurse who called me, not the OB. Likely there is nothing they can even tell you until the 3d ultrasound is even done, so although I realize that you are scared, I think being upset with your doctor's office isn't warranted in this case.
I hope all is good with baby though.
@lemondrop:This is absolutely true. Right now, it's still routine, and not time to worry. Just go to the extra appointment to see what's up.
Thanks for the thoughts-- I saw the specialist and everything looked fine
I failed to write the part that upset me the most. This assistant has been very rude through out my pregnancy and after telling me the news she then proceeeded to tell me how her neice died from this... really? I just think it was handled it REALLY poorly and I understand there are "procedures" to everything but to me she was really insensitive.
Oh good. I'm glad everything turned out to be fine. I'm also dealing right now with upsetting news from an ultrasound, so I definitely know how stressful that can be. If I were you I would talk with your doctor about what the assistant said to you and how you've been treated by her. She sounds really unprofessional, and at the very least, maybe they can make sure that you don't deal with that assistant in the future.
I also feel like my OB and her assistants worry me more than necessary, with the way they deliver news and the attitude where they seem to always assume the worst and then it turns out to be nothing. I'm wondering if I should switch to a midwife or just stick it out... its a tough decision for me because I kinda like my OB
@nonoame: I'm glad everything is okay! I'm sorry your OB's assistant was so unprofessional. I think if I were you I would call the office and see if you can talk to an office manager or the Dr. so you can let them know what she said, thats not okay, and I'm sure if she is like that with you she is with other patients as well, and they may not be aware of it.
@skibobrown I saw your post and def sympothized. These ultra sounds can be just as harmful as they are good in terms of making the mother worry. My cousin actually had a similar story to yours but they said her chances were much more higher.. like basically telling her to count on it. Her daughter is 6 now and couldnt be more healthy. Im glad that you got good news too, going through the experience though is no fun and hopefully neither of us have any more scares during the rest of our pregnancies.

So i just got a call from my doctor's office after last weeks ultra sound and said that her abdomen is enlarged and they want me to go to the next city over to see a specialist. They are going to do a 3d to check out everything.
I really have not loved my doctor from the beginning. I feel like she likes to make me worry and the fact that the assistant called me, AT WORK, to tell me this and really doesnt have any answers for me is even more aggrevating.
Does anyone know what this means? Did anyone else get this feedback. My doctor is supposed to call me back but I feel like the last hour has been a week.
