It depends on both the state and the diocese, but, with permission of the bishop and a state marriage license, a priest from another state/diocese could perform the wedding--he/she would need to make the arrangements where ever you are getting married.
You could also check into Episcopal parishes in the area you are getting married it--google them or call the diocesan office--and explain the situation.
Good luck!

Hi everyone! New to the whole wedding planning thing, and had some questions to throw out. I am a lifelong Episcopalian, currently active in my home church. My fiance and I are leaning towards a destination wedding (possibly Florida) for a variety of reasons, not the least of being that we live in an expensive metropolitan area where very modest weddings cost over $20,000!
Anyhow, it is really important to me that our ceremony be performed by an Episcopal priest, but I don't know how to look for one long distance. The rector at my church is just an interim, so he doesn't know if he would be available to come down and marry us, and he doesn't have personal knowledge of anyone working in the area we are considering. Anyone know what the protocol is? Will we have to do premarital counseling in the location where we want to get married, or can we get it where we live? Can a priest from outside the diocese where we marry perform a wedding? I ask that because another option is to ask a friend of mine from college who is an ordained Episcopal priest in another state.
And another random question--I have heard you cannot get married during Lent in the Catholic or Episcopal tradition--can anyone verify if that is true? Our anniversary falls smack dab in the middle of Lent next year, so we should probably find out now if the date is out of the question. :)
