@Wed2Attn:  I drank 3rd Trimester Tea several times a day during my 3rd trimester. I read that it was supposed to make labor faster. I did end up having a pretty speedy labor for a first time mom. Good luck!

I’ve been doing both. I started the EPO both ways at 36w based on my midwife’s recommendation. I felt my cervix last night (37w) and it was soft like the inside of my cheek! It actually freaked me out a bit, lol.

Can’t comment on the tea yet. Let us know how it goes.

Yes I did both and I went from “I feel crampy” to baby in my arms in 10 hours, which as I am sure you know, is hella fast for a first time mom.

@mixtaperomance:  advice differs on different websites (i havent discussed it with my doctor yet) but most seem to say 34-36 weeks to start raspberry leaf tea, starting with low amounts and increasing it and  starting a bit later for the evening primrose oil

ooh, and you might be interested in dates (as in, the fruit). apparently 6 a day for a month or so before makes it less likely you will need to be induced, helps with dilation and makes labour more efficient too. i figure it can’t hurt right! 😛

from around 36 weeks im going to start perineal massage too, to try and prevent tearing

this is all great information! Thank you ladies 🙂 Question though, did you just decide to start taking these supplements on your own or did your dr/midwife suggest them?

My midwife suggested EPO vaginally around 36-37 weeks I think.  I still went over a week past due, so I’m not sure if/how much it helped.

@SouthernSunshine:  My midwife recommended them, but I’d already heard of them and was planning to use them either way. She said EPO orally and vaginally starting at 36w, and RRLT starting any time after 20w (there’s debate about that one though).

@Wed2Attn:  Enh, yeah I was checked a few times but not every week.  Basically, for my situation, cervical dilation was not necessarily a good indicator of imminent labor.  I hadn’t even ‘fingertip’ dilated several days past my due date.

However, the success or failure of an induction can rely pretty heavily on your Bishop’s score- which does take into account cervical position, softness, and dilation.

If it’s possible/not discouraged by your health care provider, you could also have lots of sex.  There are prostoglandins in semen which are also known to help ripen the cervix… plus it’s kind of fun Wink

From what I understand, RRL is only good for strengthening the uterus and doesn’t help to soften the cervix or cause labour.

I drank it from weeks 34 onward. Since I was preggers in the summer, I made iced- RRL with a little honey added.

Honestly, I think it made the difference. I had a 6-7 hour labour and my contractions were VERY efficient!

@Wed2Attn:  More info: http://givingbirthwithconfidence.org/2011/06/considering-induction-learn-your-bishops-score/

*also to correct my statement about cervical position- it’s based on cervical softness & dilation as well as the BABY’S position.  Woops.

Anyway, I went from only 5cm to holding the baby in 34 minutes!  Labor is not a chronologically linear process, meaning if you’re only 5cm 6 hours into labor it does NOT mean you have another 6 hours to go to get to 10!!
