Had an idea in the middle of the night. One of those ideas that may have been brilliant in my sleepless haze, but not so brilliant in the light of day.
We are having 50 guests at our wedding. Many guests will not know each other. Though small, I do want assigned seating. I was thinking, instead of putting guests names on the Escort Cards, that we would get larger cards (3 1/2 x 5?) and my Love or I would write a special/interesting/sometimes humorous memory or fact about the person on the card below his or her table number.
I thought guests might have fun reading these and speculating about who is who while we are doing a few post ceremony pictures.
To conclude the process, I thought we might just write the guest’s name on the back, asking people in a clever way to leave all the cards as is so that everyone can peruse them until the cocktail period is over and then turn them over for the actual names when we all move on to dinner. Or, my other thought is that my Love and I would read the cards aloud and hand them out to the described guest. But I wondered if this would take too long for 50 people, such that the guests would lose interest – even if we did come up with really interesting and fun and sweet thoughts/facts about the guests.
If we’re going to do this, though our RSVPs aren’t requested until April 1, I’m going to start carrying note cards around with me and start jotting down thoughts for guests that I know are coming whenever I have a free minute.
