Its certainly not as common but I had considered doing this myself.  I think a band would be more comfortable to wear. Plus an eternity band is a band with diamonds that go around the entire band, so you don’t have just one diamond but many.

tocerg1022 :  What matters is whether you love it and what you want.  An eternity band is classic, practical and beautiful.  Yes, you will get comments, because the norm is to have an enlarged center diamond.  Is falling in line with social expectations an important factor?  Most people will say “no”, but still suffer from the stigma regardless.

Because ring regret or let down seems to be pretty popular, why not pop into Claire’s and purchase a solitaire and then an eternity band and wear them around the house for extended periods of time?  Might help you understand where you truly fall.

Good luck!

tocerg1022 :  I ended up with a very traditional solitaire.

I agree with PP, it is helpful to try rings on to get a sense of what you feel comfortable wearing and what really suits your style.

tocerg1022 :  do you mean an all metal eternity symbol ring? Or the kind where stones go the whole way around? If it’s the second one then if someone said “what no diamond?” I’d be like “um, there’s 14 diamonds” (or whatever the number is). Either way all what should matter is that it’s what you want, people’s opinions are meaningless. One of my best friends has a channel set band as an engagement ring, and it looks really good.

I work with a woman who has a gorgeous emerald diamond eternity band as her engagement ring! People totally do this. Get what you want 😊

I love the look of just an eternity band and you can really go for a statement piece if you plan on wearing one ring.  My wedding band is an eternity ring and I will say that it isn’t the most practical for daily wear.  I take it off to clean or if I’m doing something active (I have a plain band as well).  It’s something to keep in mind, but easy to work around.

tocerg1022 :  I love when I see this!

In response to those who say where is your diamond!? You can say, just be honestly and say of these ARE my diamonds. My fiancé and I preferred the this look and leave it at that. This is a ring you’ll wear forever, the amount of time you’lol be engaged and fielding any questions will be pretty limited comparatively.

tocerg1022 :  There’s nothing wrong with it, but because eternity bands are usually used as wedding or anniversary rings, people who don’t know you will probably assume you’re already married. And people who do know you might be surprised when they first see it. Not because they’re judging or don’t like it, but just because that style usually means married rather than engaged.

I am … afraid of everybody’s … reaction.” — There’s nothing to be afraid of. If someone says “are you married?” you can just say “nope, engaged”. And if your friends say “oh, that’s different” you can say “yep, it’s the one we liked.” Or if you truly couldn’t handle people asking about it, go with a different style. But really though, it’s not a big deal.

I’m with ya! I plan/hope to have a sparkly eternity band for an engagement ring.
