I don't think so. My friend sells her knitting on etsy and I am almost positive that she doesn't have a business license of any kind!
You need to check with your city and state--they are all different.
My understanding is that etsy carries the business license, and you just supply product, but definitely check the laws in your own state.
@SapphireSun: That is incorrect. Etsy is the venue where you sell. The seller is responsible for meeting all requirements by the state in which you live. You will also need to collect sales tax if your state requires it.

I have recently considered starting an Etsy shop, with the hope of eventually generating enough income to quit my 2nd job. I was just wondering what I need to have covered legally before I officially set up shop.
Any advice?
