After scouring bridal magazines and dvr'ing every SYTTD episode on tv, I thought I would never find a dress... especially living on an island with one real bridal boutique. No DB here either! So I went with very little hope of finding something I would like and only a few ideas. I wanted a fit and flare, mermaid or trumpet... Possibly a sheath if it was lace. Also I wanted strapless, probably lace, with a shorter train and NO POOF,NO BLING, NO HARDWARE. Our wedding and reception is outdoors and I didn't want anything extravagant or too ball gown.
My consultant ( if you can call her that... She owned the place and was the only person there) was a little difficult to communicate with. Everything I said she heard the opposite and I was pretty frustrated in the beginning. The first dress I tried was a beautiful italian lace empire waisted a-line. It was a small sample and I managed to get it on.... Let me explain one thing. I have never tried on a wedding dress. I am left alone in a room told to put on a dress that frankly I'm a little scared of. After finally shimmy-ing into it I regret it. This thing has a good 10 inches before the zipper could evenconsider touching. She then asks me a few questions, says ok go try on the next one and disappears. I spend the next 8 minutes trying to figure out how the hell I'm getting out of this dress. (ps-I'm sweatinprofusely because there is no AC or ventilation in the room. And that under lining is like Saran wrap by now..) finally lifting my arms straight into the air and jumping up and down I get it up and over.
Not very optimistic at this point.
After another 6 disappointing dresses I have completely lost hope and just going along for the ride. I kept finding dresses in the store I liked to be told they we're too small. I'm a size 8 so that was pretty frustrating. Then this lady pulls a 180 and says to try on this last dress.brings it out and immediately I wonder where the heck has this been the last hour? Now I had said no bling or hardware yet half of the dresses she had me try on we're splattered with crystals and beads and belts etc. yet this one is different. The beaded pattern looks like swirly lace and the fit is dead on what I wanted. It is also satin. I put it on and was immediately stunned out of All cynicism and worry. It was more dress than I thought I would ever wear and I had brief doubts that I couldnt give up so quickly. But I also realized I couldn't and didn't want to try on another dress.I felt so incredible. Looking back this lady may have genius or it was just lucky. But she put me in some hideous dresses... Then put me in this. Maybe I was played but I am so happy with it! I only have pictures from online at the moment but I wanted to share them! The back is stunning and so elegant and figure flattering. I'm still in awe of it!
