My fiance and I will be having our honeymoon in Europe, but we’re not exactly sure where to go.
Any suggestions would be amazing as we really need to get planning!
Sorry I should’ve stated that I live in Australia, but am getting married in my hometown in Ireland 🙂 so flights to and from Ireland are booked. We just haven’t planned what’s happening in between

what do you like to do? What time of year are you going? Do either of you speak any foreign languages?

Assuming you are going soon after your wedding, I would definitely suggest Greece! We went to Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos for 2 weeks last September and it was an absolutely dream!!! I highly recommend!

It’s only sorta europe, but Turkey is my absolute favorite place on earth. Istanbul is amazing, and there are other great cities to visit, the coastline – it’s the best.

Be prepared to spend THOUSANDS just on your plane tickets. We were gonna go to Belgium but are going to California instead because of the exorbitant flight costs.

@ashleycan86: Oh my gosh I want to go to Greece so bad. The islands especially. We were totally going to do it after our wedding but it looks like we have to postpone our honeymoon 🙁
I would suggest Scotland/Ireland for ease of communication obviously but also it would be more relaxing than the big European capitals (Paris, Rome, etc.)
Rome wins in my book for seeing iconic European sights and amazing food.
Someone on the Bee just posted some beautiful pics of Croatia, and there are some Bees who have been to Iceland as well and it looked fabulous.
Of course I will put in a good word for Turkey- Istanbul can get pricey but anywhere else in the country your vacation dollar will go pretty far!

Thanks everyone 🙂 your suggestions are really helpful!
@cateyes well we would like to start off the trip with a relaxing resort kind of thing for maybe a week, then after we want to see as much as we can. We’ll be there from mid July through to mid August. And no, neither of us speak a foreign language.

Does Iceland count as Europe? We just went there and LOVED it. It was so gorgeous, relaxing and easy to navigate. Italy is a must do at least once in a lifetime. So much to see and experience and the food is so good. Definitely not as relaxing though and a lot of walking. Switzerland, specifically the Bernese Oberland area is beautiful as well, second only to Iceland imo. London is one of my favorite cities, and of course that could be done together with Paris. Personally, I wasn’t really a fan of Madrid and Barcelona or Munich. We’re planning a trip to Greece and (not part of Europe, but) Jordan this year. My friend who has been living in Austria the last few years says her favorite (out of 35 ish European counties shes been to so far) is Turkey.

Greece is my favorite place ever. i’ve been 4 times I love it so much. We went for our honeymoon in 2012. For our honeymoon we went to Santorini, Spetses, Aegina and Athens. I’d recommend Santorini, Naxos and Athens though. Seems like everyone speaks English there. I’ve never been in a situation where we couldn’t find someone who didn’t. There’s a great mix of history, relaxation, shopping, beaches, it’s perfect for a honeymoon in my opinion.
The Germany/Switzerland/Austria area also very beautiful. Though not super romantic, you could look into bus tours (or a cruise )that go to lots of places to maxamize your time and sightseeing.
