i know in michigan, the lighting packages are anywhere from $3-$500... and MI wedding budget averages around $26k (go figure, in MICHIGAN?!)...
so it sounds like your two quotes might be a lil on the high end... but perhaps it's the locale? i'd shop around a lil more and see if they customize lighting and make it a smaller package for you!
It never hurts to bargain either. If you want to work with the company that has worked with your venue before, let them know you're getting a better rate from so and so company. I would get 1 or 2 more quotes first to see if they are close in range, that way if they all come back $6-700, you can easily let them know you're getting better rates elsewhere and see if they could match! I've found a lot of wedding vendors willing to do this, if you just ask!
Wow! That is a great deal. I was quoted for uplighting, pinspotting, break-up pattern on dance floor and monogram $2,500 - the uplighting being the largest part of the quote.
I'm in NC and our lighting will be $250 and an extra $50 for "club lighting" The $250 includes 15-20 light thingys around the reception venue.

I really want uplighting in the ballroom for our reception. I have received 2 quotes. One from a company who has worked with my venue before. Their price is $800. Another company is $700 and hasn't worked with my venue before.
Anyone else using uplighting and if so, are the prices I'm getting quoted a pretty good deal?
My venue won't allow me to rent the lights and gels on my own and go to town, hence the use of the lighting companies.
