I'm not sure if it would be up your alley, but I love my Fiesta dishes! They're great because they sell bakeware and pitchers and all sorts of things to match so your entire kitchen can be coordinated :).
I think food always looks best on white dishes. That's why restaurants use them. You can always add color with your tablecloth, placemats, napkins or flowers.
We picked white plates from IKEA that are a squared off shape with rounded corners. We also picked open stock instead of a 4 or 8 place setting set.The advantages of buying open stock is that items can easily be replaced if something gets broken rather than needing to buy a whole new set.
I also love the clean look of white, I can easily dress it up or down for different occasions. Instead of formal china, we picked a white bone china set of quattro everyday dishes. They're square with round edges and have sort of a pearly finish.
Ours came from bb&b, I think they were in the range of about $70 for a set of four place settings.
To add some color, I found some cute colorful chargers and appetizer plates from c&b. I also like to use fun linens, napkins, etc to brighten up the table. I still love the basic white because it's suitable for all occasions and matches with anything.

My fiance and I just got engaged in the last few weeks and while we do not intend to get married until May 2013, I've already jumped head first into wedding planning. We don't plan on registering for awhile, but while walking through Macy's we decided to go check out some china. Now, I do not plan on registering for fine china- I love it, but I don't see myself using it often enough to be worth it and we really do not have space for a whole separate set of dishes. So I'd like a pattern that is clean and modern, but is nice enough to be able to be served at Christmas dinner or when having a party. Also, I'm okay with some dishes being white, but I do want color. Thus far we've gone to both Macy's and we wandered through Crate and Barrel and Bloomingdales and I haven't come across anything that I've really liked, let alone loved.
I'd love to see if any of y'all have recommendations of everyday dishes that you love and that may meet our requirements!
