So, in my family, it is very doggie-centered. Every one of the families has a dog. Grandma, three cousins, my parents, my in-laws.
Normally, how the ‘showing off of new puppy’ goes, is that we all get together under a pretense of dinner. Then, whoever runs off and announces, “Guess who has a new addition the family!” and brings in new puppy, and we all play and have a good time.
What about cats? I mean, why can’t cats have a cute show-off too? 🙁 Even if it’s not outside for supper, but like invite people over?
Aaah, sigh. My town is very much hick. A dog is a pet, but a cat is a farm worker.

You could do that. Why not!!! Everyone loves baby animals.

@Fizzy8: That’s what I thought, baby anything is cute!!

Do it!! Set the precedent. Establish that you cat is a family member, not a farm worker (not that there is anything wrong with farm kitties, I’ve seen some very happy well cared for barn cats in my day).

Go crazy cat lady on their asses, cats are so much better than dogs anyway 😉

I’m with you on this! (see my screen name lol) to me dogs seem more like the ‘work animals’ then cats anyway!

I feel the same way! Any time I talk about my cat at work (which isn’t a lot, I try to hide my crazy-cat-lady) people don’t care at all. But when someone gets a new dog, OMG everyone wants to see pictures! Why all the cat hate?! Not that I don’t like dogs, but cats are family members just the same

@Isabelle663: I strongly believe cats are misunderstood.
I’m a crazy cat/dog lady so anytime I’m posting something on facebook or talking to people IRL, 80% of the time it’s about our pets, two cats and two dogs. Make them care OP Lol.

@krayzay87: Yes I do think they are misunderstood. One time at work someone (a cat hater) said something along the lines of “cats are stupid, you can’t walk them, you can’t play with them, they just lay around or bite you”, to which another coworker replied “my cat is able to walk himself around the house just fine, he loves to play fetch, and when I go to bed, he’s the first one by my side for some petting.” That sure shut the other guy up!

Thanks for the posts everyone!! 🙂
I lived in Japan for a little while, and their cat love is HUGE. And I come home, ready to talk about all the cats and I was reminded, oh yeah, this is dog country.
I’ll do just that!! I’ll get everyone together and show the little kitty off. 😉
It’s always tough, I’m the youngest in my family, to come up with new things, or things to be proud of because chances are my 7 cousins already did it… But nobody has had a Welcome to the Family Cat! Party yet…. 😉
