@Clairetoris:

The past month or so I have been going to jewelery stores, researching diamond quality like a psycho, and staring at settings until I find something that I don’t like about it.

LOLOLOL!

Oh my God, girl, can I ever relate to this.

Especially the psycho part.

I never knew the meaning of obsession until my FI, now DH, turned me loose in the stores to hunt for a new e-ring setting and wedding band.

Before we got engaged, we never discussed rings and I never dropped any hints about what kind of ring I wanted. So DH ended up proposing with a simple solitaire. It was fine, but not blingy enough for my taste and not really “me,” so I asked him if I could have the diamond placed in a new setting and he said yes.

Over the course of about six months, I nearly drove myself crazy, to the point where I actually had to take a break and stop looking. I actually did not settle on a final e-ring and wedding band (separate purchases) until six months after we were married! LOL

This Christmas season is our second wedding anniversary, but the obsession remains. I STILL spend hours gazing online at all different ring styles. My Pinterest boards are crammed with sparkly ring porn. It truly is a hobby!

Oh and just as a P.S. — if you tend to be indecisive like me, fickle and keep changing your mind all the time — WHATEVER YOU DO — don’t ask for something until you are totally, 1,000% sure.

And once you’re 1,000% sure — keep your mouth shut and force yourself to wait for two weeks before mentioning it to your SO.

If at the end of the two weeks you’re still 1,000% sure, then go for it.

I can’t tell you how many times I found something that I just was going to die if I didn’t get it, and then after a few days I would change my mind again.

Forcing yourself to wait at least two weeks before saying anything will prevent you from making any big mistakes.

Another suggestion. Stay away from sapphires or colored gemstones. I know they’re gorgeous. And yes I want one for myself someday, too. But when it comes to your wedding jewelry, keep it simple, simple, simple. Diamonds go with everything and you can always add a sapphire anniversary band later.

Good luck with the hunt!

@Clairetoris:

I have read so many horror stories on here about girls with rings that aren’t for them and über sensitive fiances/husbands.

OMG I know. I always feel so sorry for them. It would drive me nuts to wear a ring that wasn’t “me.” I do feel lucky that DH just wants me to be happy, he understands that it’s important to me and I’m the one who has to wear it every day.

And yes you will find many Bees here who are just as obsessed as we are!

@Clairetoris:

Well, then ignore what I said about the sapphires.

Sapphire accents are GORGEOUS with diamonds, I agree, and if your FI wants to include them, then I think it would be a really nice idea and a sentimental touch.

Here is a pic I saved of one of the Bees… can’t remember her name, but I think this is one of the prettiest sapphire sets I’ve ever seen.

But personally if I were to do sapphires, I would choose a set where the sapphires were teeny-tiny little accents to the diamonds, and the diamonds were the main focus.

Also too I think you are on the right track with rounds, especially round brilliants. They have the highest sparkle factor of all the cuts. All of my diamonds are round brilliant and when my ring hits the right lighting, it sparkles like a million stars. The other day one of my co-workers told me (in a restaurant under the LED lighting) that my ring was “blinding…”  …I love it!

@Clairetoris:  I can totally relate.  Ever since losing my wedding rings on 9/11, I’ve been a bear to live with, lol.  I’m so picky about my diamond.  Now, that I’ve finally chosen the stone, and semi mount, I’m worrying about adding a halo.  It’s a custom halo, and it will be done in like 2 more days, and I am about to back out, lol.  I would lose the money, of course.  Dh said I should go for it and if I don’t like it, he will have it reset as a solitaire for me.  Thank God for patient men!  Lol.

@Heidibrooke:

Is that your rock in your profile photo?

WOW…

That is stunning… ovals are my other obsession. I lovvve ovals. If I could get a new center stone (which I’m not), I would think long and hard about getting a 1.5 carat oval.

Holy wow. I hope your halo comes out the way you want!

@BelliniChic:  Yes, and thanks so much!!  It was a tough choice between round and oval.  I will hopefully get a round as a RHR, someday.  Don’t wanna press me luck, lol.

@Clairetoris:  Oh my goodness, yes! SO and I went ring shopping, but I prefer to pick and choose pieces I like from rings in order to make the perfect ring. We finally decided on one together! BUT whenever I’m on the bee and I say “ooooh look at this ring I’m in love!” he goes “oh dear god no” because he can’t bear for me to change my mind again haha.

@busybee3791:  lol this is so me too.

I finally picked a ring and it’s off for sizing at the moment, but it’s taken 6 months to pick the damn thing!

This is me, too. I try to spare DH and not inflict my ring chat onto him too much. I save my ring comments for the Bee boards. I don’t think he fully understands the severity of my obsession.

We are getting ready to return a pave anniversary band that I simply had to have about a week ago, because when I picked it out I didn’t observe my “sleep on it for two weeks before saying anything” rule. There’s a second pave band on its way through UPS, and that one is also going to be returned because suddenly, I’m obsessed with braided eternity bands like this one that I saw on the Bee about a week ago… isn’t it stunning?

I tried on a similar example in a store the other day and I’m 99% sure I want something like it.

I found one at a good price but I’m planning on not saying anything to DH for at least a week. Knock on wood.
