Evil Envelopes! How to address??

I am not doing inner envelopes either, so I address the outside one to each person who is invited from that household (couples are Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jones).  I list children under the parents names indiivudually with a Ms. or Mr.  Unmarried couples get Mr. His Name and Ms. Her Name.  This is SUPPOSED to be clear; if their name is listed, they are invited, if it is not then they aren’t invited.  But someone always messes this up.  I don’t think there’s any way to 100% keep people from calling and asking or just showing up.

My parents are also paying for the wedding, but I am keeping up with everything myself.  I put my name and address on the return envelopes.  This way I don’t have to keep meeting up with my mom as they come in to get them (this was her suggestion).  I also live with FI but he isn’t keeping up with the counts, so I just put my name on it.  He didn’t care.  If you chose both, I’d put his full name and your full name.  It’s more “proper” if you want to follow etiquette.

Hope this helps!  Sorry I rambled back.  🙂

I think technically the RSVPs are supposed to go back to the person hosting, but I think it’s not a big deal if you want them to come to you.  I’m sure there’s some official rule on whether to put your name or both your names on them in that case, but I think these days you can more or less do what you want.

Our invitations are relatively formal, but I am injecting a few fun elements (bright envelope liner, punched belly band) and I am thinking of going more informal with our return address and the RSVP address.  We are hosting, and RSVPs will come to us– I am thinking of just, Firstname&Firstname with our address.  Same with the return address on the actual invitation (guest addresses will be in formal format, Mr. & Mrs. etc).

As far as who is invited, you should just spell out exactly who is invited on the envelope itself.  I think we are putting something on the belly band (to sort of take the place of an inner envelope) but 99% of the invitations we’ve gotten (and there have been many in the last 5 years) have just had an outer envelope with names.

i didn’t do inner envelopes either. I used pocketfolds though, and put a tag on the twine that i used to close them and wrote first names of each individual taht was invited.

secondly if you are handling the rsvps address them to your household. Just include you and your fiances first names. That is what i did.

@smrlovingrl:  our RSVP envelopes are addressed to us. we used a return address stamp and it saved us a ton of time.

our outers say “mr. so-and-so and guest” or “mr and mrs so-and-so and family” or “mr and mrs so-and-so and miss so-and-so” if its one child. then our RSVP’s say “we have reserved ______seats(s) in your honor.”

I’m putting the names of people invited on the RSVP cards I’ve included with the invite as its not written on the main invite itself.

You can type it – because it should be legible over everything else.

Check out daFont.com for some fancy (free!) calligraphy fonts, that might make you feel a bit better about it. 🙂

@smrlovingrl All mine are typed!  I used one of the fonts off our invitation just to keep it cohesive.  It’s totally acceptable by today’s standards.

@smrlovingrl:  I’ve typed all of mine!! And that’s something I do have a picture of as I’ve just uploaded it onto my blog 🙂  I have to admit, getting my envelopes right on paper rather than just in my head has been an absolute pain in the bum…

The top photo is an invite for a colleague (hence no address as I’ll be hand delivering) and the bottom photo is all my posted invites (With no invites inside!)
