I'm not at all an expert on this... but from what I understand, you don't get a positive OPK until after you've already ovulated. Sperm can live in the EWCM for up to a few days, so it actually works really well if you go ahead and BD right before you ovulate, then they're there and ready! But of course, if you do it too early it won't work!
I think the best way to do it is just BD over and over again so your chances are greater...
@bluebonnet: oh wow, really?! I was always under the impression once you get the positive OPK you are going to ovulate within 12-48 hours. Crap I need to re do my research!
My doctor told me to BD when I see EWCM. So yeah, you should.
As for OPK, it's tests the hormone in your urine. (I can't think of the name of the hormone.) When this hormone is high, it tells you that you are expected to ovulate in the next day or so.
I have been using the strips. There may be other OPK that test differently. For the strips, if I get EWCM or a postive OPK, that's when I BD.
@bluebonnet: the tests tell you that you will ovulate in the next 24-48 hours.
Ahh sorry ladies, what I meant to say is that it's POSSIBLE to get your first positive OPK after you've already ovulated. See here: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/Faqs/Positive-OPK-the-same-day-as-ovulation.html
I would start BDing as soon as you see EWCM. sperm can live in this environment for up to 5 days, so you'd be covering your bases.
It was hard for me to track EWCM so we basically BD every other day starting at day 8 and then the day of and after my positive OPK. It eventually worked : )

I usually get tons of EWCM about 3 days BEFORE ovulation. I heard thats the best environment for sperm, but then I hear its good to BD close to ovulation. So if I get EWCM a few days before I ovulate should I be BD then or closer to my positive OPK or both...? I only get the EWCM for a few hours then its almost non-existant. I hope that makes sense and thanks in advance for anyone who can help clear things up :)
