I just came back from their on November 9th. Very nice resort, but we had terrible weather. Our RTT pool was too cold to use, even on our one good day at the beginning of our week. THey (RTT pools) are not heated.
The restaurants were great for dinner and breakfast in the Barcelona was very good. We never got to try the outdoor restaurant for breakfast. Spa -- a couples massage was great but pricey.
The Excellence is kind of far from everything so for excursions you are the first picked up and the last dropped off which adds on a lot of time.
I recommend private transfers to the airport so you don't have to be hauled through the hotel zone.
The beach also gets a lot of seaweed. Which made me not very happy with my travel agent since that was a big requirement of mine.
Room service and the in room jacuzzi are very nice features.
I booked our room there after hearing wonderful things from a friend that stayed there. We decided to splurge on the 2-story with roof top pool. In the reviews that I read on TripAdvisor, no one seemed to rave about the "Excellence Club". Someone said that there was no way for them to differentiate that group from other guests. I also read that #7423 was a nice one to request because it is more private but not included in the Excellence Club.
I have heard that it's kind of off the beaten path, but we really wanted something low key.
Expedia mentions a promotion for various extras for it being your honeymoon: http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?qscr=dspv&itty=new&from=m&shtl=1&htid=1672497&crti=&mdpcid=21187-1.ExpediaHotelsExitUS%7C%20ExitWindow_Control%7C%20freesearch&eapid=21187-1
Just a tip: I booked my flights the day that they became available and saved a LOT of money. $198 per person and they are now $408 per person (before taxes). You may be able to get a better deal on airfare if you start thinking in that direction sooner as opposed to later. Also, my mom had a recommendation for private tranfers from/to the airport if you want me to get the details and pass that information along.
We are also considering that hotel!! The pictures look amazing!! Kayakgirl, would you recommend the resort or suggest looking elsewhere?
Thanks for the input ladies! My fiance and I booked our 7 night stay for next Ocotber last night! I CAN'T WAIT!!!
I'm so sorry I didn't see this before, I'm going to PM you with pictures from our trip. You are going to LOVE it there!
I want to go to this resort SO BADLY for our honeymoon, but we are wary of hurricane season. :(
After much island hopping, my FI and I decided to head to Riviera Maya for our honeymoon. We have in down to 3 resorts - Excellence, Secrets Maroma Beach, and the Royal Playa del Carmen. I'm so confused though on which one would be the best choice!
We're going for our honeymoon August 16-22. We were nervous about hurricaine season, but after reading a lot realized their big hurricane time is Sept/October. August is considered a "shoulder" season, which means it has the off-season rates but the bad weather isn't there yet.
Excellence Playa Mujeres is amazing.
The Excellence Club offers some amentites that you don't get with the regular suites. Here's a link to a very detailed description. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
I love adults-only resorts and always try to choose them. I've heard this resort is quite far out of Cancun so much quieter and the beach is awesome. I've stayed at other Excellence Resorts and always loved the service.
We just booked our honeymoon last nigh! WOOHOO! We're staying at the Ocean Coral & Turquesa in Puerto Morelos. It's between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. I was originally looking at hotels through bookit.com but found an even better deal on travelocity. And tripadvisor was a lifesaver throughout our search.
We had our honeymoon at Excellence Playa Mujeres and have nothing but awesome reviews! The entire week was a blast and we cannot wait to go back again.
We went on our honeymoon there and loved it!
Here is a link to our trip advisor review. There are some pictures in there as well as links within the review to more pictures.
Hubby and I booked our one year anniversary trip! SO excited! :)
We are also going to Playa Mujeres..for our Honeymoon!! I am so excited!! I have heard so many wonderful things about this place =) We did decide to do the Excellence Club with the 2 story terrace, just cause it's our Honeymoon.

I'm thisclose to booking our honeymoon at Excellence Playa Mujeres and was hoping some of you lovely Bee's had trip reviews and/or photos that would make it easier for me to hit that reserve button! lol!
Also would you spring for the two-story rooftop pool room or the regular ol' suite but add on the Excellence Club package?
Thanks in advance!
