I’ve been to Xel-ha and wasn’t impressed.  It was on and off torrential raining though, and visibility was poor for snorkeling.  We had a nice time walking on all the trails and experiencing something totally different from what we know.  It was fun for an hour or two, but my husband and I were stuck there all afternoon and it was just too much.  I didn’t think the food or drinks were all that awesome either.

We didn’t go to Xplor or Xcaret, and they definitely seemed more adventurey so they’d probably be great for you!  I bet you could do a tour that does both and get a taste of each!  Have a great honeymoon!

We just had our honeymoon there last month – it was great! You won’t regret the rooftop terrace suite, we loved it.

We did two excursions, Chichen Itza and Selvatica (not called that in the excursion book, but there are several “extreme” excursion packages listed that take place at Selvatica. Chichen Itza was cool if you’re into history and ruins and swimming in the Il Kil cenote after was incredibly beautiful. Selvatica was really awesome if you’re feeling adventurous. The staff is fantastic. We did a zipline course through the tree tops, off-roaded in a side by side 4-wheeler and jumped into a smaller cenote for swimming. All very cool.

We thought about doing a third excursion (we were there for 10 nights), but decided to get a couple’s massage at the resort spa instead and I’m glad we did. it was awesome and I love the aqua therapy after!

Enjoy your time 🙂

Excellence is amazing! Best hotel i’ve stayed in! We saw alot of mayan ruins – Chichen Itza, Coba, Tulum and Ek Balam. Tulum is amazing if you havnt already been- and you can swim in the sea there and its so beautiful! We also went to akumal to swim with turtles and we saw 9 turtles! 9! It was incredible. We also did an adventure day swimming in cenotes and zipling which I definitely recommend. We even ziplined into a cenote which was great. There are loads of scuba and snorkelling tours too and you can see whale sharks. Have fun!

Congrats! I’ve been to Excellence Riviera Cancun, and it was so incredible I booked Excellence Playa Mujeres for Christmas.

For excursions, I’d definitely recommend Isla Contoy. You can probably do Isla Mujeres and Isla Contoy as a dual excursion.

Isla Mujeres is really small, but you feel safe wandering around on your own. One side is super calm waters and beaches, and then you walk 5 minutes across the island and it’s all huge crashing waves and rocks…cool, but you don’t need more than an hour there (in my experience).

Isla Contoy is out of this world..small island as well, with no hotels/big buildings on it. The ocean life is amazing, waaay better than at the resorts, since it’s so quiet.

highschoolhoneys:  We had an amazing time, but if I’m being honest I preferred Excellence Riviera Cancun.

The restaurants at both are huge selling points and are AMAZING. The biggest differences were the rooms.

The beach also had way more seaweed at Excellene Playa Mujeres, and it got a little stinky (that being said, that may be because we went the Playa Mujeres in December and Riviera Cancun in September).

The rooms are newer at Excellence Playa Mujeres, and they added in a daybed on the balcony, and a jetted tub (so like a little tub with jets) right next to the balcony, with a huge window you can open. I really loved the daybed. That being said, the bathrooms have WAY less privacy at Playa Mujeres.

At Excellence Riviera Cancun, they have an opening at the bottom and top, but are solid colored. At Excellence Riviera Cancun, it’s frosted glass with a thick band of clear glass. So from the bed if you look back (or most places in the room), you could see the person in the bathroom. Private message me if you want pics of both or any more detailed descriptions!

NOTLBride:  thanks for the info and pictures! I saw a few negative reviews, most of which were for silly things. Everything else I heard is so amazing.

I am looking to go there with my soon to be husband in January 2016. I am just nervous that it might be a little colder that time of year.

highschoolhoneys:  We had bad luck with weather and it was a more rainy week, but definitely still warm! It was about 77-83F most days.

The biggest complaint right now was people who had issues with construction noise next door. We stayed on the other end, so didn’t have any issues, but it’ll be done in a month so you’ll be fine when it comes to any construction!

If you go, make sure to the do the day trip to Isla Mujeres! It’s a big touristy island so it’s safe to wander around, and they have a turtle sanctuary ($3USD to enter) that was amazing! Small but so fun seeing the baby sea turtles!

Congratulations! Excellence Playa Mujeres is an amazing resort in a great location! If you are looking for some amazing water experiences check out the day trips to Isla Mujeres. Your day will be complete with sun, sand, sea, and shopping! A great way to get a full day adventure and get to do a little bit of everything. Another fun and adventurous excursion is mini speedboats through the mangroves; this excursion always gets amazing reviews from the grooms when they return.
