My boss stayed there for her vacation this past summer. She LOVED IT! She said everything was absolutely perfect. No clue about the specific rooms though.
Also we stayed at the Secrets Maroma Beach, (just down the road), in September and it was amazing and perfect. Highly recommend that resort.
@Meowkers: Cool.... thank you for the info... and I will def look up the place where you stayed as well....
my sister, her husband and another couple vacationed there and they were in a standard room, so I'm not sure about the upgrades. however, their pictures were awesome and they still rave about it! I have not heard any negative reviews about this excellence property. you might check out tripadvisor.com if you haven't already!
@GI Josephine: Thanks so much.... I was actually checking tripadvisory right before I read your posting ;) .... The reviews at this resort are awesome..... thanks again!!!
I stayed there two years ago. LOVED the hotel! The food was great, rooms were awesome! We had a standard room, so I can't speak to the two story suite, or the excellence club. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the beach. If you're a beach person, then I would suggest a different hotel. It wasn't terrible, but the water had a TON of seaweed in it, and it wasn't that gorgeous blue water that you usually associate with Cancun.
I know most of riviera maya doesn't have the spectacular clear blue water. we stayed at the grand sunset princess last year and had the same problem with seaweed. the water near tulum is amazing! big waves and very clear!
PS. Secrets Maroma Beach had perfect crystal clear blue water.
wow thanks everyone for the feedback, I greatly appreciate it.... The photos of this hotel looks sooooo nice and the reviews are awesome so I just wanted to hear some feedback from people on this site as to whether they enjoyed it.... I didn't think that the upgrade was necessary because it appears that the rooms all have the same amentities minus one of two things....
THANKS again...
I have not stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres; however, I have stayed at the sister resort, the Excellence Riviera Cancun, which is very very similar. Playa Mujeres is supposed to be a little nicer than Riviera Cancun, which is honestly rather hard to imagine because the resort was so amazing!
Hubby and I did do the Excellence Club upgrade, and I do not regret this. The top shelf liquor in room is no big deal, but one of my favorite things was the Excellence Clubhouse that you get access to- it's basically a lounge with appetizers and drinks around the clock where you can relax. We went there every morning, had these adorable breakfast hours d'oeuvres and played chess for a while. You also get a towel concierge and (I'm not sure if this is the same at Playa Mujeres) but we got access to 2 special bars and pool areas that nobody else had access to, which was really nice. Sometimes the pools would get a bit crowded but the VIP pools never really did! So I think a lot of it is personal preference. I just wanted to give you an idea of what you could expect.
I didn't do the rooftop suite- not sure if I would in the future, to be honest. Our room was nice enough as it was.
I will give you one tip- when we arrived, we were told that we'd been "upgraded" to a swim-up suite. This turned out not to be so much of an "upgrade" as they would like you to think, as you can see everyone sitting out at the pool through your window and have zero privacy. We ended up working it out- we switched rooms on day 2- but if this might be a concern for you, you may want to tell them that you do NOT want a 1st floor room.
The beach does have lots of seaweed, this wasn't really a big deal for us. We had a completely amazing time, and are already planning our next trip back. These are really high class resorts and I definitely think you get what you pay for. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@Miss Burgundy: Thanks soooo much for the detailed information. We def want to stay at the excellence resort.... I will take a look at the one you stayed at as well.. The pics the the resort I was questioning looks realllly nice and the reviews were awesome.. but I was just curious to see if anyone had stayed there...
Thanks again.... if I have any more questions I will def take you up on that offer and ask you...
Hi!!
We honeymooned at EPM and absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED it!
We stayed in the 2 story rooftop suite and for our honeymoon we thought that the level of privacy it provided it was definitely worth it.
We plan to go back eventually and the next time we won't stay in the same level of room because it's not worth the money for a regular vacation...but for relaxing with your NEW husband it's worth spending the money.
I wrote a super detailed review on Trip Advisor and you can read it here if you'd like to.
My best friend stayed at the one in Riviera Maya and she loved it too. The one in Playa Mujeres is a bit newer and a tad more expensive.
If you have any questions, feel free to message me!
@QueenBecca037: Thanks so much... I am going to def read your review... It is expensive but I think its worth it.... Well without the upgrade, we are looking at $3700 (for two) to include flight and of course the all inclusive resort for 10 days... of course I haven't booked anything (still early for me).... I was just playing around on the travel sites to get an idea.... now if one day i play around with it and see an awesome deal then I will have to go ahead and book, lol...
Thanks again!!!
That actually sounds like a pretty good deal. I think that's what we payed for 7 days? Maybe that was because of the upgrade. Even if you don't do the upgrade, I think you'd be really happy with it.
My husband and I stayed at the Excellence Playa Mujeres for our honeymoon last June. I read mixed things about how great the Excellence Club really was so we decided to just do a 2-story rooftop terrace room. It was WONDERFUL! I enjoyed going down to the beach or pool for awhile during the day then being able to go to our own area to lay out, nap, or get in our own little pool. We would usually bring drinks up and ordered room service a few times too.
Mrs. Penguin had a great experience there:

and I did, as well. To date it's been one of my more favorite vacation spots. We did not upgrade to the "excellence club suite" and we don't regret it and probably wouldn't in the future either. Yeah, you get use a special pool, but you have to share it with others that upgraded. The regular pools were so empty most of the time, so it's not we felt as if we missed out.
@Lillindy- when I was at Riviera Cancun, the first couple of days we had no issues with the pools crowding. But on the weekend, some of the regular bars/pools got PACKED and we were relieved we had the VIP pools and bars to ourselves.
@Miss Burgundy: I was thinking that was a decent price considering its for 10 days..... I am def on the lookout as far as prices.... its been pretty consistent though so I dont think its gonna get much cheaper than that, lol.
@Lillindy: Wow, thanks for the links.... so far it appears that everyone had a good time whether they upgraded or not... the PICS looks soooo nice..... Is it time to go now?? lol

Did anyone stay at the Excellence Playa Mujeres in Mexico for their honeymoon? If so, did you enjoy it? Do you think its worth it to upgrade the room to the two story rooftop or to the "excellence club suite"?
Thanks!
