I haven't been there but I would trust Trip Advisor, it has never steered me wrong.
@FallBride2B: I was just in Punta Cana this past week. I didn't stay at the excellence resort but they told us December was the best month to visit. I didn't really love Punta Cana...at all. If I had the choice to go somewhere else for my honeymoon I'd go to Aruba or Turks and Caicos.
It's ok, but not as nice as their resorts in Mexico.
If you're headed to Punta Cana I would try the Paradisus, Secrets, or Zoetry.
I went last year (not for a honeymoon, although we met several couples there that were on their honeymoon) and we loved it. It was super romantic and beautiful. Food was good. The ocean is a bit rough there but we mostly swam in the pool
DH and I had our honeymoon there May24th-May30th (dont ask what happened on the 23rd..were originally supposed to go to Jamaica, strikes, flight cancellations, etc). I absolutely loved staying at excellence! I've been to RIU and the palace resorts before and this was by far the best. I thought the food was really good, steak not so much, but when you see the cows as you drive there you won't want to order one! The grounds were beyond beautiful and the staff was amazing! The shows at night were awesome as well (if you go you HAVE to see the circus show!). Definately more of a liad back atmosphere, they have one disco thats open until 2 and one bar as well. Everything else closes at midnight. Get the mahi mahi at the grill, AMAZING!
I would check out Trip Advisor, they have a really good group of reviewers, they critique on almost everything such as food, location, beaches, rooms, entertainment..etc. We just booked our honeymoon for one of the Excellence Resorts as well at their location in Puerto Morelo, Mexico near the Mayan Riveria. We are super excited too!!! Excellence Resorts have some really positive reviews :-)
Yes! We went on our honeymoon in Punta Cana during May 8-may18. We stayed at the Majestic Elegance which is the same hotel as the Excellence. The only thing is the Excellence is the adults only and we didn't want to pay extra for it. The Majestic Elegance was wonderfull....we had the best time. We got a great deal for our honeymoon and would go back in a heart beat. I defintely think you get what you pay for and more. Good Luck...Let me know if you have any questions.

Has anyone else been to Excellence Punta Cana, DR? FI and I are seriously looking into this resort and will be booking by the end of June (35% off when you travel August 14 - December 22) Trip advisor has some really great reviews on it but I would like to hear from any of my fellow Bee's about their experiences.
