Thanks for posting. It was a really interesting read. Its nice that people are really starting to support a more common-sense lifestyle in pregnancy instead of insisting that we all live in a plastic bubble for 9 months.

I liked it, I just wish she had some OBs agreeing with her.

My OB agrees with her–my only restrictions are my food can’t be raw and hard fish only once a month.

But I still avoid caffiene and alcohol, and really limit sugars/processed foods/deli meat/soft serve/all the other stuff I’m “not supposed to have”

I love this article. My favorite quote: “Of course, for the baby, I’d do anything. But I didn’t want to do it for no reason.” I’m keeping that one for all those times people come at me with “but it’s ONLY nine months; you really can’t give up _____ for just nine months? How selfish can you get!”

@KCKnd2:  It’s an interesting article! I wish i felt equipped to draw my own conclusions about some things. I have been craving diet coke but all i can find out about aspartame is that its ok in ‘moderation’. And i have no idea if that means a can a day, a can a week etc. i havent found much info about that to weigh up the odds

On the flip side, i feel comfortable that the odd glass of wine wont harm my baby and that caffeine in moderation is ok

@BrandNewBride:  +1. I will do the same. It’s better to be safe than sorry and these scientists change their minds on a regular basis about what is and is not okay. I don’t feel a 9 month sacrifice is a lot to ask given it’s the rest of your child’s life potentially at stake.

@KCKnd2:  My OB is a really old foreign guy (I think Middle Eastern), which is why I love him– But he definitely isn’t a big believer in modern medicine. I’ve seen other OBs (revolving Doctor practice) who are much stricter and could talk for HOURS aboutfood safety!

@FauxBoho:  Swordfish, tilefish, shark– Predator fish that eat a lot of smaller fish and wind up being very high in mercury

@MrsPanda99:  Seriously! I feel like I need a banner that says “All things in MODERATION!” Except maybe booze when you’re pregnant…

@KCKnd2:  really interesting, thanks. I looked up about drinking while pregnant and it was very contradictory!

@KCKnd2:  Thanks for posting, that’s a really good read!  Makes me feel a little less ashamed of my occasional cheats.  It’s funny, to me coffee is fine (in small amounts) and alcohol is fine (occasionally and in small amounts).  But deli meat might kill my baby in one sitting.  It’s funny that I think of the risks that way, but it really is a crapshoot.  It’s nice to have a reasonable perspective on the matter.
