So, my boyfriend and I are both strongly Catholic and Monday he brought up that we are headed in a certian direction…marriage. We’re both in our late 20’s. I’ve had one serious boyfriend and a couple of duds, he’s had not too much luck dating before me. So while we are on the older side we know not much.
He asked me my timeframe, and having known he wanted fall I said “fall next year”
he answered (much to my suprize)….”alright, consider this our personal engagment with the official one to follow”….which will be this fall
We are going to talk to our pastor/priest first after our crazy July and Aug vacations, just to get his blessing and figure out all the Catholic stuff.
Both of us have only ever been to one Catholic wedding so we know nothing.
We know we want to have a very small wedding (30ish people).
So…what do I need, what do I need to know…where can I get a simple, cheap, but warm dress (as it will be the fall in New England) I don’t even know what I need! So many questions So excited.

Looks like he as made some kind of plans for the end of September….I don’t know what idea he’s got in that silly little head of his, but I’m sure it’s good

Congratulations – that’s really lovely!
My fiancé & I had a short, “personal” engagement too while we ironed out a few details and bought a ring! It was nice carrying out this wonderful secret!

Yes, it’s our own personal engagment. To cut down on family drama, we want to present our engagment with wedding fully outlined and “planned”.

@searock: That sounds sensible! It’s certainly been nice for us having some time (about six weeks) to think of answers to the inevitable questions – when, where, who, etc. We’ve certainly not planned a wedding yet but we’ve managed to choose an approximate time of year and tell our family and friends we’ve got some venues in contention! It’s really exciting!
Wishing you all the best!
