I’m not an exclusive pumper and my baby isn’t even here yet, but, if no one answers you, I found this really great article by an exclusive pumping blogger and I bet she has the answer to your question somewhere on her blog if not in this article: http://happyhomefairy.com/2013/06/07/extreme-pumping-tips-and-tricks/. Good luck!

I don’t remember exactly when I dropped a pump but I mirrored my pump with my son’s feeding/nap schedule and when it changed, and felt comfortable with it, I would drop a session but tried to mantain the # of oz I was pumping. He is now 15 months and I am done to 3 pumps but pumping the same # of oz as when I was pumping 5 times.

Basically since my 5 pump/day, my son has changed his feeding/nap schedule and thats when I played around with dropping pumps and seeing which worked out best.

I think by 5 months I was down to 4ppd but I went back to work full time just before she was 6 weeks old and it was TOOOOO much to pump 5-6 times a day and work full time!

When I dropped a pump but didn’t want to lose ounces, I added time to my other pumps and spaced them out a little longer.  I think I was doing 30-45 minutes in the morning, another 30 minutes at lunch, about 20 after work, and 30ish before bed.

I did turn the suction down though when I added time and luckily I never had any sort of engorgement or blistering or anything.

When I dropped to 3ppd I lost a LOT of ounces, and began my weaning journey.

I think I was at 4 pumps around that time but I can’t recall… Maybe it was still5. Regardless I EP’ed for a year and stuck at 4 ppd for several months, and stayed strong at that. When I had more than enough freezer stash I finally let myself go to 3 and that was when I started losing oz. luckily I didn’t do that til about 9 or 10 months. I think I went to 2 at 11 months, 1 a week or two before LO’s bday. That last month or two things really plummeted, so whatever you do I’d stay at 4 til you’re close to weaning. It did help make weaning really easy. by then it was more psychologically necessary for meto pump than physically, by far.
