I have not taken a luxury cruise but I have been to both Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Both are stunning places. Are you a diver by chance? Each place will draw you there for different reasons. Are there activities you are looking to do whilst away on you honeymoon? I ask this because some people just like an all inclusion blob on the beach scenario and there is the adventurist kind? The water/beaches and diving is great in Grand Cayman.

I LUVE cruising!  Enjoy the ship and the activities they’ve planned.  I’ve been to both places twice and to be honest, the best excursion was simply to go to the beach.  The water was beautiful.  Cozumel had great shopping, especially for souvenirs.  I hope this helps!  Enjoy your time!  Congratulations!

@FutureMrsBess:  I went on vacation in Cozumel and snorkeled there. It was so much fun. They brought us out to a beach that had water slides & trampolines in the ocean. It was amazing!!!

Stingray City is a must in Grand Caymen if you like the water! You can book a catamaran ride out to this area where all the stingrays hang out and go swimming with them and feed them. There are tons of them! Or if you’re not into that, you could go to the turtle farm or “Hell”.

As far as Cozumel, there is lots of great drift diving and snorkeling, shopping and great restaurants.

@FutureMrsBess:  snorkelling or scuba tours should be great in both places.

i am not sure how long you are at port for in cozumel but you can always take the ferry over to playa del carmen and visit 5th ave.  shopping galore!!

@FutureMrsBess:  the tulum ruins are only about an hour south of playa del carmen.  you should look into a tour there if possible.  chichen itza is much farther and bigger, usually a day trip, depending if the shuttle takes the toll road or free road.  do you know if the cruise ship will be offering different tours at each port or is it something you must find on your own?

@FutureMrsBess:  I’ve been to Cozumel, and if you are interested in ruins, I would highly, highly recommend a visit to Tulum. You’d have to take a ferry to Playa del Carmen and then a bus/taxi/rental down to Tulum…but it is amazing. Not sure how long that would take though and with only 9 hours, it would most certainly take up your whole day if you even had time.

There are ruins on Cozumel – San Gervasio – we didn’t go, but it would probably be worth a stop…you could check out some reviews on tripadvisor

 http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g150809-d153309-Reviews-San_Gervasio_Mayan_Site-Cozumel_Yucatan_Peninsula.html

and this is a general list of things to do in cozumel:

(in general – I highly recommend Tripadvisor for any vacation – I’ve learned so much through others reviews…it’s my vacation bible)

If you decide to rent a car in cozumel (which I would absolutely do unless you plan to do tours all day) – go through Isis

http://www.islacozumel.net/services/isis/

We got a great convertable bug – it was old and cute and awesome.

Also – go to the other side of the island – it is breathtaking. I think it might be a half hour drive each way if that…and worth it in my optinion. My fiance and I stayed at the only hotel on that side – it was isolated and perfect.

feel free to message me if you have any questions 🙂

snorkeling with sea turtles was probably one of the coolest experiences on my life. Plus we had a long boat ride, and on the way back there was unlimited “painkiller” drinks.

In Cozumel we actually booked our “excursion” separately from the cruise line.. it was a private resort where you pay like $100 up front and all day you just get to lounge on the beach, get served drinks and a 4 course meal, and theres a pool. I think it was a place where locals went too, because there was a baby shower going on in the pavillion. It was pretty cool. If you’re not staying for long I’d probably want to go back and do something else, though. Lazing around on a beach isn’t TOTALLY my thing 😛

@FutureMrsBess:  I have also heard that doing a day trip out of touring ruins might not be a good idea. It’s super exhausting because its so ungodly HOT outside and its an all day thing. So it would be something to do if you flew, not cruised. But, thats just the opinion of a cruiser I asked.
