I would get a treadmill. I am a runner, so I’m biased (even though I hate running on the treadmill!) but I think there’s more variety. You could just walk on it, you could walk and run, you could run some days, etc. You can also do an incline or some even have a downhill feature. That said, I would get whichever you think you would use more!

I would definitely get a treadmill over a bike, because I find them to be more versatile. You can change the speed and the incline, as well as walk forwards, backwards, and sideways to work different muscles. Also, treadmills are a bit more efficient when it comes to doing interval training, which is the best for fat loss.

I have an exercise bike because I also run. I like to mix it up.

I’m votingfor bike. When I started at the gym I of course wanted to go on the treadmill first, to look more experienced or whatever, but I have dodgy knees and tbh I wasn’t up to it. The excercise bike does mean you have to actively push yourself and know when you’re slacking off, but it helps if you’re just getting started. It depends on what works best for you though. For me, I would rather go for a run outside than on a treadmill, but I’d rather ride a stationary bike than a real one. be aware though that your butt will REALLY hurt for a while when you first start if you’re not used to it haha.

Also I recommend the reclining bikes more than the upright ones. Easier on your joints, bum, and back and you’re not working with the help of gravity to get the pedals moving, you actually have to do the work yourself.

Bike or treadmill will both be helpful though, so go with whichever you feel better with 🙂 good luck, and congratulations on the bub.

I much prefer a treadmill as I feel like I get a better workout. If I was to buy any equipment I would get a xtrainer they are the best workout equipment:)

@BridieBea:  I hate xtrainers or eliptical machines. I always walk away feeling injured. I prefer the treadmill to the bike. Bikes always hurt my butt and my shoulders/neck from hunching over. But maybe a reclining one would be better, but I wonder if it would be harder to get a good workout.

Maybe you could get a free one day or one week pass at the gym and just try them all out and see what works for you. (If you feel bad about your body, dont worry, you wont ever have to see them again!)

@BridieBea:  I use to hate them but now I love them because I know I’m getting a really great workout.

I agree with a previous suggestion to get a road bike plus a trainer (which you can usually find on Craigslist for cheap), that way you can have a dual function bike.  If you want to switch it up, run outside.  I’d also recommend getting a heart rate monitor, I like having one as a reminder to stay in my “fat burning zone”.

I would personally prefer a bike because I’m not really good with high-impact stuff like running. Plus they take up less space than a treadmill and if you get a bike without a back rest and some programs with different resistance settings it can be a good workout.

I am pregnant and have a treadmill and I love it.  I only do a brisk walk.  I walked before I got pregnant to lose weight for the wedding and then did it a few times a week to maintain.  It has worked well for me!
